Looking for my 50 trim in, Minnesota
Does anyone know of any machine shops in the Houston area that are familiar with DSMs? I'm just doing a basic mild buildup but I'm very picky about machine work. I'm not new to building engines, just new to the area. Thanks! :dsm:

call up turbocharges.com or Jody at A.D.R (advanced racing dynamics), his # is 281 705 5346. one of them should be able to tell you where to go.

DSM shops in Houston that are reliable and trustworthy? Hmmm................nope, none that come to mind. I can tell you of someone you can talk to though. First you need to get on the EOS board @ www.eosperformance.com/forum, then talk to a guy who goes by the name "Slowboy". He will be able to help with engine rebuilds for a VERY good price and we all have quite a bit of knowledge on the boards too. By the way, are you in houston and where?

I would strongly suggest you not call either one of them. They have a reputation around town of doing shotty work. Take my advice if you wanna save time, money and heart ache.

Oh, you said machine shops, not performance shops. JK does awesome work, and there is another off of 59 near the George R Brown convention center. Took my head there once to get a burr out of one of my cam journals. AWESOME work!

Lets keep it to first hand experiences, not what *might* have heard. I think the question is if you have been in Houston and had good work done on a DSM, where is it? :thumb:

Find some DSM shops, visit them, ask about work they've done, cars they've worked on , their own cars. The shop I go to in Austin has been racing Z cars for 17 years, and I've seen their work, its speaks louder than any rumor or reputation. ;)

well, i never had them work on my gsx, but i have had them get and find me parts at the last min. and as far as that experience goes i can't say anything bad about them. i was in a bind and visiting my inlaws in Kingwood and i didn't know of a reputable (sp?) performance dsm shop in the area. kinda like here in corpus there isnt one but i do have a few friends that can do awsome work. this guy brian that i meet the weekend before i totaled my gsx has rebuilt the fwd and awd 4g63 trannys and does bad ass work. if you have the parts he can have the tranny back to you in a couple of days. he just redid my frineds galant vr4 not to long ago.

First off, I'd like to thank you guys for all your input. At this time I'm not really looking for a parts outlet or a DSM based shop to do the wrenching for me. Actually, what I was really looking for was just a machine shop to do some basic machining of a test bed 4G63 I have laying around. Cutting/polishing the crank, boring the block, pressing the stock pistons off, resizing the rods, balancing the rotating assembly and final hone on the cylinders are something pretty much any run of the mill machine shop can handle. The problem is, torque plates for a Mitsu aren't something you see laying on every machine shop's floor. A Sunnen CK-10 and a torque plate isn't something that's gonna make or break my combination, but it's nice to see how my cylinders are as close to round as possible when I run a dial bore guage up the wall. I was just hoping to find a popular machine shop that was familiar with the 4G63/4G64 here in the Houston area. It's no biggie though, I doubt machine work will be the culprit when this block goes to the big junkyard heaven in the sky. I'm gonna boost it and nitrous it until it blows up into a million little pieces anyway. It's only time and money, and that's the price you pay to have a quick thrill. :D Again, thanks for the replies.
