ok i have been searching the threads about turbos because my turbo went out.. my friend has a S16g from hahn but it was for a RS.. and i have been told to run hahns s16g i need a different exhaust manifold... and i know that the t28 i know will bolt right up... but it cost so much.. i would really like to run a S16g so basicly my question is... the evoiii s16g package that comes from FP says all you need is a j pipe and a ss oil line to complete installation.. do i not need a different exhaust manifold? because if you dont why would anybody buy the hahn 1? so much cheaper going with the evo 16g

please any input would help... i could do any turbo swap im just kinda confused on what will fit with or without what.. and 1 more question with the evo 16g that comes with the evo o2 housing (from fp.com) will that bolt right up to my stock downpipe?

THanks

since u have a Turbo u do not need a new exhaust manifold just the 2G install kit & a j-pipe.

the EVO 3 O2 Housing is a 2.5" housing so u will need a 2.5"DP for it to be a direct bolt-on

Ok your confusing yourself a little.

The Hahn S16g and evo16g are 2 different turbos.
Neither need a new exhaust mani but I would personally stay away from the Hahn.

What FP told you was correct for the evo16g.
The big28 requires nothing to install.

ok then what is the "install kit" exactly.. like what is it.. cause im really confused now. you say i dont need anything and the other guy saying i need a install kit ;[

Look there for what an install kit usually consists of.

Once you add up the install kit & the EVO 16g price its almost more cost effective to get a FP T28. It took me only three hours to install mine and you get to keep the factory J-pipe. The J-pipe offered on most of the install kits look like shit and creates more possibilities for oil leaks.

The hokey J-pipes that have a rubber tube and fittings on each end. You end up with four extra connections where oil can leak. I'm not saying that they all leak but the more connections you add, the more places that can leak and more troubleshooting required.

I think you are getting your pieces mixed up... The J-Pipe only flows air through it... No oil touches the J-Pipe...

Personally I dump some Mobile in the into the intake before I go for a drive, gives it a smooth powerful feeling. :p

J-pipe is for the exit side of the compressor. :D

T28 is good for really quick spool up. I would just recommend going for a 50 trim PTE turbo. Its the last turbo you'll buy. :thumb:

My bad. I refer to the oil return pipe as a J-pipe also. The compressor exhaust J-pipe is another place where potential leaks are introduced with the kit.:p

but i thaught that top end power of the 16g was way more than the bt28? basicly it comes down to this for me.. witch 1 flows more air?

B16Gs flow about 10cfm more than a "big" T28 turbo. The difference between the two is minimal. Most will claim that the B16G turbo will produce more power, but the B16G has been around longer and has more instances of people trying to produce big power from it than the T28. Basically you can't go wrong with either. Some T28s even offer B16G compressor wheels which offer the bolt on performance of the T28 and the flow rates of the B16G. If you have a 1G get a B16G, if you have a 2G get a T28 w/ a B16G compressor wheel. Or get both and be really creative. :p

you couldent give me a big 16g, not after looking at the compressor maps, the compressor wheel is just too big for its housing.. it produces LESS power PSI for PSI than a small 16g under 22psi.. then barly outperformes it over that.. nobody ive met who has one liked it.

The EVO16G you are talking about actually has a slightly larger (yet lighter) compressor wheel, larger trubine opening, and stiffer actuator spring than a standard B16G. The problem is if you use the EVO O2 housing, you must have an aftermarket DP or have the bolt holes on your stock one slotted. The EVO O2 is slightly different than a 1G or 2G, and fits up different. Some places sell a 16G or 20G with a modified T3 compressor cover and a 90 elbow, making them direct replacements for a 2G.

If somebody is really hard over about needing an install kit, any decent turbo shop should be able to rotate the compressor housing and reattach the wastegate actuator arm in order to make a Mitsu turbo 100% bolt-on for a 2G. This is one option I'm considering for my turbo upgrade, but I still may just assemble my own install kit-- it's not that hard.

so basicly what ever you prefer... it dosent seem to bother me about the "install kit" since with the install kit and evo16g is about the same price as a t28..2 more questions.. if i get the evo16g without the evo o2 housing i can use mine thats there now right? and also witch 1 spools up louder ;x..

My FP T28 spools up quietly. It was the first thing my brother said when we took it out on a test drive. So if "bling" "bling" is what you are looking for the T28 may not be your cup of tea.

Go with a ported EvoIII 16G from Slowboy. Specials right now for 569. Throw in 110 for porting and a new wastegate and you are good. That EvoIII is money for the price! The only knock on the 16G is the install kit needed to get.

my turbo dosent say "bling bling"when it spools up anyways... where did that come from? just because i like to here what my turbo is doing i get ragged on. geez! its just like the older guys love to here a paxton whining ;/

I get Greddy at cost from a friend of mine who owns a speed shop. My cap gasket started to leak so I got the Greddy. It has a teflon seal so it should last a while not like the stock cap rubber seal. Would you buy Greddy over stock if you could get it at cost? Take a look at my car. It looks bone stock from the outside and aside from the Blitz TT, Greddy boost controller & shift knob, the interior is stock also.

Why would anyone care which turbo spools up louder? That is the same type of question that guys ask about BOV's, "which is the loudest". You should be asking "which one spools up faster or is better".

Sorry if I offended you but you asked the question and I told you the T28 doesn't spool up loud which shouldn't be a factor in choosing a turbo.

sorry for flaming... i already new the 16g spools slower.. hey i got a question for you also... think you could take a look at my other post on my ecu question? my car has been pauged for this problem for 6 months
