Hey i was wondering if anyone has ever taken the stock Garrett from the Mekur XR4Ti. It is HUGE. THe air ratio on the intake is .60! I can get one for very cheap......free......and i was wondering if anyone has used it. If so how does it spool, how much boost can it push, and manifold difficulties (bolt on stock or totally build from scratch). Thanks

It's a Garrett T3. .60 & .63 A/R, or .60 & .48 A/R, depending on the year.

Pretty vague so far. ;) Post some pics of it. You'll know all you need to know just looking at it. If its free, just sell it and use it to get something a little more common. If you have the bling, go for something trick.

My friend has merkur and it is decent. Spool is I think around 3700 or so and Ive seen it push over 23 psi no problem.

The Merkur T03 is good to about 24psi on the restrictive headed 2.3L Ford and will support between 280 and 300hp at the flywheel. As for spoolup, on the super restrictive head of a 2.3L Ford, with an MBC boost started coming on at ~2500rpm and I saw 16psi @ 2800rpm. Later I ran the T3 .63 hot side with a Grand National compressor wheel and it bumped everything about 300rpm later. Now I've got a fully ported, big-valve head, ported intake and ported exhaust manifold and the bigger wheel spools a about the same as the stock wheel did.

Don't know how it all would correlate to a DSM engine...the 2.3L has the extra .3 liter advantage, but even a ported cast iron 2.3L head won't hold a candle to the DSM head in regards to flow.

Yea it is the manual version. It is pretty beefy. We will have to make a custom manifold but that shouldnt be too hard (we are experienced). Heres some pics of her.

hmmm svo thunderchicken xr4ti same car.....all I have to say is torque monsters that should help ya in your choice hopefully.

Do all that work for a turbo that is almost as good as a small 16g.

yea it probably is a lot of work but you have to look at the money issue. We got the turbo for free and it has absolutly no shaft play with under well under 100k on it. THe manifold will be made by us so all we have to pay is the price for some lines and a the metal for the manifold. Oh and do you guys think that it has to be a tubular header or just a plain manifold? What would help it spool faster?

You have the ability to make a cast manifold?
