well now ive got my 50 trim fmic and alot of stuff comming....

time to start looking around at internals...

my head is going to be ported w/ hks 272/272 cams 1mm oversize valves and probably just going to do a sheetmetal intake manifold.

my question is what pistons/rods are a good strong combo for just about any turbo i wana throw at it ?

and what else is good to change when rebuilding a motor? besides pistons rings rods gaskets (going all ARP studs to)

and whats a good head gasket ?

If you really want to make your block "bullet proof" then you should try and find a machine shop that can send it off to get it cryo-dipped and then you can shoot it with a gun............FOR REAL. That will take care of your block.:talon:

As far as rods and pistons I think the best would have to be Pauter Rods and Ross racing pistons.

if you have a 6 bolt, youre fine with that 50 trim. only thing id do is a 1g rod/ 2g piston thing.

1g rods 2g pistons, ARP EVERYTHING,new oil pump, and mitsu gasket. I only plan on going with a 20g at the biggest.

Eagle rods are lesser in quality than Crower. At $350 a set though, they should definately be good enough for most people.

avoid JE pistons, they REQUIRE you to let the car FULLY AND TOTALLY warm up before ANY driving, or you risk piston slap and a fuxored motor..

i never knew that about JE...thanks for the info!...can anyone else back that up?

Yea, my friend expalined it to me.. they ARE badass pistons.. but for some reason they way they are made they MUST be fully heated to operating temp or they can cause problems..

you can read more indepth about the at VFAQ under the "101 ways to kill a motor" section..

i for one see no probs with stock 2g pistons unless you are going like super shithappy crazy... rods are the only real weak point in the 4g63.. replace those and your good for over 400hp with probably near stock reliability assuming you take normal care and have proper tuning.

Really? Based on what?

Ask a machine shop that deals with them regularly about Eagle's quality control.

You get what you pay for. There's a reason Eagles are half the cost of "good" rods. It's not just because of the sizeable child labor force n China.

This is going to be my engine combo down the road:

Wiseco Pistons
Eagle rods
ARP main bolts and studs
HKS 264/264 cams
Crower springs and retainers
SS valves

That should be able to hold a PTE 50-Trim running over 20psi daily.

Eagle rod's are lighter, and they are still damn good for almost anybody on the board.

Eagle, Crower, and Pauter are really the main choices.

Pauter are probably know for being the strongest.
