I've been reading up a bit on these turbos now and I'm wondering how difficult they are to install...the T28 is a 'bolt-on' and the 16G requires a kit...my question is just how much mech knowlege does one need to install either of those. Is it an all-day job with a lot of specialized tools or is it a 2-3hour toss on deal? Thanks guys.

The T28 is very simple...flat-head screwdriver, metric wrench and socket set (mostly even sizes from 8mm - 19mm), a couple tubing wrenches for the oil feed line.

Since one bolt to the turbo is a stud, I couldn't remove the turbo without remove the exhaust manifold so plan on taking both out.

2-3 hours if you have all the right size tools and can find them. I'd plan on also replacing the oil feed line since it's always good insurance to have a new one on there.

My 16G took about 12 hours to put on. However, there were some special circumstances that made it take that long. If I were you, I'd jump on the Evo3 deals they have right now. With a kit, porting and a wastegate upgrade you are looking around 900 bux or so. IMO, the Evo3 is capable of more power than a BigT28...

big 16g, injectors, and fuel pump took less then 5 hours on the car thanks to Mr GSXTCY:thumb:

I would go with a 16g clipped on a GST so it slows spool up and increases top end because you know GSTs do not want a quick spool up.

yep I agree, on a gs-t the t-28 spools too damn fast in my opinion. W/ only a t-25 I was barely holding traction in first w/ my 18" 225 racing harts. W/ a mitsu turbo swap, I don't break loose unless I'm boosting above 18psi ish. I know a guy w/ a t-28 and he just basically blips the throttle and the tires want to break loose.

That's a good question but I can't see why not. The space between the bolts to the O2 sensor housing on both 16G's has to be the same, however or no one could use it..

OK so it seems the T28 is not the way to go due to its quick spool (although keep in mind I'm not one for drag racing...I have my fun on highways) -- My next question is if I were to get the evo deal 16g...what psi could I run with stock parts? and about how much HP would I get with that psi? I know I'll have to eventually upgrade the clutch/fuel pump/exhaust...etc but for now I just want to see a decent gain from an aftermarket turbo. Also the only answer above about installing the 16g kit was 20 hours...but he said he had special problems with it...how long/hard would an average install be on a kit like that?

Install will depend on how rusted your bolts are. Just soak everything in penetrating lube for about a day, then the install should take about 3-4 hours for your first time. Also w/ stock fuel, you should only run about 16psi max on pump gas. Horse power depends on to many things to guess at. You see a nice gain, but not what you'll probably expect w/ out any other mods.

Well my bolts shouldn't be rusted at all as the turbo was just taken off and had its oil lines replaced and a few other things at the dealership a month or two ago when I bought it...thanks for the help guys. I think i'll go with the evo from slowboy.
