Hey i am really thinking about convertaing my over to a 6bolt. I have a 95 Tsi talon. I just had some pretty major damage to engine, fixable but at a high cost. Was thinking of just buying a 6bolt. Now i will have the work done by someone else who knows DSM but i was just wondering after getting it done was it worth it ? I know the whole crankwalk thing but other than that are you happy you did it ? Are they any do's or dont's you would recommend ?

thanks guys

:talon:

id definately go for it..... mines currently underway and dont really have any advice other than dont attempt it yourself, that is just asking for problems.... have someone you TRUST do it

well considering how much larger 1g head ports are compared to a 2g head, you should get a decent power gain from the added airflow(w/1g intake mani/TB). if you have a decent ammount of supporting mods
if your car is stock i doubt you will notice even the slightest bit of power difference, espicaly if you keep the stock t25

its far better to have a 6 bolt under your hood, but if you dont have alot of mods and its a big cost difference between fixing your 7 bolt and buying a 6 bolt and paying for the parts/labor to swap it in, it may just be a waste of money
and i really wouldnt recomend buying a used 6 bolt and just throwing it into your car unless you personaly know the person whos car it came out of, i wouldnt blindly trust what whoever sells it to you sayd about the miles and condition of the engine, i and most others would recomend you rebuild it
you would be taking a big chance putting an engine in questionable internal condition into your car, you really cant trust what a stranger says about the condition of an engine he is trying to sell to you, i would at least get inside the engine and inspect its internal condition before youy swap it into your 2g
iv seen people i know do engine swaps then find out theres something wrong with it a day of so later, trust me when i say you dont want to go through that crap

As a side note, DSM link is something you can plan on getting as well. Almost every six bolt out there in a 2g has the dreaded random misfire which really sux, and the only good way to fix it is with dsm link. Not to mention you can do all your logging with it as well. As for not doing the swap yourself, that depends. If you just simply want to take out the 7bolt and drop in the 6bolt, its a fairly simple swap. If you want to build the engine and what not, thats a different story.

Definitely go for the 6bolt and don't skimp out on replacing stuff that's easy to get to while the motor is out. The only things I dont like are: off-boost response from lower C:R, and it's hard to sell a 6bolt 2G! Have fun :thumb:
