Difference between 16g and t28

I'm going to make a turbo upgrade soon and I was wondering what is the difference between this 2 turbo chargers, t 28 and the 16g and which is better for my 2g eclipse.

16g!!But it does require a kit for a 2g,unlike the t-28 which bolts right up.I would hold out though,get some fuel upgrades(Pump,injector's,AFC)Then go with an even bigger turbo than those,there are turbos out there that are just as streetable as those two yet make more power(Green,50 trim)I think you will crave more power down the line.....trust me i do.

Why would you go 16g if you could do it again, I sure wouldn't. I've pulled a 16g car hard with my Big T28. If you're gonna give advice then support it with some reasoning/facts man! The Big T28 flows just short of a Big16g (about 10 CFM less from what I've heard) and is a complete bolt-on with no additional parts needed as you know (we installed these at the same time remember).

For a FWD I waould not suggest a t-28. Spools too quick

Not when you only have two wheels turning. That fast spoolup can and will cause excessive wheelspin if you aren't careful. Better off going with something a little bigger to avoid this problem. I didn't even think to check to see if he was AWD or not, my bad.

Yeah, for FWD.... go no smaller than a 50 trim. (Seriously, they are so cheap now with the PTE housings and their ilk.... there is no reason not to buy a bigger turbo)

BTW, I have a FP T28, and I like it a lot. However, at the time (2 years ago) I was into autocrossing, and there were no cheap big turbos like there are now.

If I was buying a turbo now, had limited funds, and knew I was more intrested in power than throttle response, I just get a PTE-type 50-trim. I wouldn't waste my time with a 16G or T28, even though they are both fine turbos that can get a DSM into the 12s like cake.

-16G More top end power
-T28 Quicker Spool
-16G install Kit needed (could be done cheap) -> 16G on a 2G
-T28 Direct bolt on

...comparing a sponsered 1G FWD with a 1.6sec 60' to a non-sponsered 2G FWD with a 2.05sec 60'. Apples -> Oranges ... too bad there isn't a complete list of mods on the times page. The true comparison would be two identically setup cars with the two different turbos.

btw, I'm starting to like my FP Big T28 now that I've finally turned it up to 15psi. Mine's an automatic and I still have to deal with traction issues off the line and pulling out of corners. I did have some problems initally because FP sent me a POS the first time...it almost had as much shaft play as my T-25 with the broken shaft.

Also consider this: 16G's have been around since DSM's were still being built with pop up headlights. T28's have been around for 2 years or so now. GEE I WONDER WHICH ONE WILL HAVE HAD MORE TWEAKED OUT CARS TO?

Personally, I'd get the Evo III Big 16G. Oh wait, I did.

First time out with it, I ran a [email protected] with a 1.699 60-ft. My previous best was a [email protected] with a small 16G.

On top of this, I was flowing 40lbs/min of air with the Evo III 16G at 22psi, which is about 4 to 5 lbs more than I could flow with the small 16G.

I don't think you will see that much air out of the Big28. There have been a ton of 16Gs getting into the 11s in the past few months. The same can not be said for the Big28. The mean time for a 16G car is probably about half a second faster (at least) than for a Big28 car.

I'm not sure why you would need a turbo that spools faster than this 16G unless you were autocrossing.

I was only showing some FAQ's since he wanted them.yes the 16g's have been around for a while and of course would be showing up on more cars,but i was only stating some FAQ's.Personally if i had a 2g and was debating these two turbos i would be just about dead even on which one to put in.I have read that the 16g's are a PITA to put in on a 2g and i would rather have something that just bolts right up.(but the 16g is going to put down a little more power,so the pro's and con's just about even out for me)Like i said before i would go with something bigger than both of these,yes its a little more money now but you will save money by buying it now than buying a t-28/16g now and then buying a bigger turbo later.

If you think that getting a 16G mounted on a 2G is a pain, then don't even think about a larger turbo. It just gets harder.

Bolting up a 16G is a piece of cake. Bend a water line, get an RRE compressor outlet pipe. File the bolt holes on the oil return pipe. Get a braided oil feed.

I think the 16g install is lame as hell on a 2g, I dont like the way the compressor outlet has a pipe.

I am very impressed with shape's evo III though, but if I had the extra money I would go with a 20g or one of the forced performance turbo's.

The big 28 install is much cleaner and looks better, it also is less likely to leak.

If your going with a front mount it doesnt matter which one you get.

Yeab but that was loren jacobs car. For some reason his car has always hauled ass.

Doint expect to easily run 11's with a small turbo it is much harder to make power.

AAAActually it uses the Big 16G compressor wheel. Believe me, I have one. I love mine. Spools up REALLY quick and I have it set at low boost right now because I don't have enough fuel and it holds a solid 9 psi all the way to redline. NO boost creep. Even my friend's small 16G with the 34 MM flapper and porting can't do that...

the big t28 is weak on top end, i got one ported and it won't hold 16psi to redline, midrange is amazing though, but if u want to hang with the big dogs, u need top end!
big 16g better investment! or in my case, buy an eta32 turbo.

Why would you want to run 9psi?

If the "T28 killer" uses a 16G compressor wheel, why wouldn't you just buy the cheaper 16G instead? The only extra bits you need are the oil feed line and the compressor outlet pipe. And the exhaust turbine is bigger, and the A/R is larger.

I guess you are one of those people that don't read posts before replying... I stated that I'm only running 9 psi right now because I don't have the fuel to match the air. Also the Big T-28 Killer uses the BIG 16G compressor wheel not the small... Get your facts straight...
