Oil on Ex.Manifold Gasket, not from Valve Cover

i have a 2G exhaust Manifold with the mitsubishi 2layer metal gasket, and when i installed the manifold, i cleaned up the oil on my head from the leaky valvecover, but now i have oil all the way accross my gasket and its not coming from above ???? This is really weird, any ideas?

did you replace the valve cover gasket.

no not yet, i'll be doing valve seals soon and was going to do it at the same time. But you can't see any oil leaking back down from the valve cover, its all built up on the gasket though. What'da think?
