Ok, I just bought the Joe P MBC XZ which needs no tools to install and I put it on my car, and the boost goes incredibly high. Like 20 PSI at WOT. It's unbelievable. I turned the boost down, like all the way via the controller, and it doesn't budge. What is my problem? I can't seem to turn it down. I don't know what to do. Help!!!

Make sure that the lines are hooked up correctly on the mbc. If they are switched than your wastegate nip will be blocked and give your turbo as much boost as it can handle till it blows...its very important to have the lines hooked up to the right side of the boost comtroller

I'm having similar problems. I made my own MBC, a picture can be seen here= http://members.lycos.co.uk/mgmaestro/hpbimg/bcv1.jpg

Although its a different car the principle is the same. Once fitted, i found boost shooting up to stupid levels even with the spring under no tension. Stupid me, i'd put the thing in the wrong way.. But, now fitted correctly, i'm still getting boost spikes.

I think its to do with the way my actuator is set up. I'm running peak of 1 bar, then it used to drop down to 0.9bar. With the MBC in to try and keep that 1 BAR peak, it's impossible. The MBC has to be fully unwound to get it to that level and even then it still drops off.

Would it be adviseable to drop the base actuator setting to 10psi, then increase the boost from there? As can be seen on the picture, is the bleed hole too big? Would it be worth blocking it off as i don't want to run more than 15psi, or will i get proper results once the actuator is backed off?

Many thanks in advance,

Gareth

Follow up from previous reply..

Base boost setting now down to 10psi, increased to 13-14 psi with the MBC. Seems sharper off boost, and builds rapidly. Which still causes a boost spike... Damn... My bleed off hole is quite big, something close to 1mm, would this exaggerate the spiking? Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

Gareth
PS i will buy a DSM when i got to the states, it's my kinda car..

I dont think the size of the bleed off hole would increase spike...i anything it could help it. A lot of homemade mbc's tend to spike a little because its hard to find the right spring for different boost levels. I think you should try and find a boost level your satisfied with and then find a spring by trial and error...
