if you have a turbo dsm(1g or 2g awd or fwd) do this: Go out to your car, put the key to the "on" position. You know, as far as it will go before you crank the engine. Can you hear your fuel pump prime? It should be a whirring noise. Note if you have a stock or aftermarket fuel pump.

Ive had different reports of dsm's priming their fuel pump or not. My car wont start, I dont hear the fuel pump prime, and I was wondering if the pump primes with the key in the "on" position, like most cars do
 
Oh yeah, forgot to add that one car has the stock pump and the other has an upgraded pump. Both cars have the rewire mod.
 
ive got a count of 3 aftermarket pumps that DONT prime, two people that said their stock pumps USED to prime, and one person with a totally stock pump that primes...

keep the answers coming guys!

J/K,Mine primed,but it seems like it does not do it all the time:confused:

make it easier to tell, turn your blinker on, if its running it will be very obvious..

I have a walbro 255hp and i dont hear it.. I dont think it primes, but it starts on like one crank..

no rewire done, dont believe in it.
 
So isn't priming or not priming controlled by the FP wiring circuit? I don't see how changing fuel pumps would make it prime with one and not prime with another.

I am pretty sure that fuel pump prime is controlled by the MFI relay located in the center console.At least that is what the fault tree that I have says.If the relay is bad the whole fuel system is done.

Also my 92 fuel pump primes.Stock no rewire.
 
hmm...I would go turn my car to the on postion...but there is no battery or alternator in it currently...there will be tomorrow though...but I think mine does prime...I just don't remember cause I'm so used to hearing the fuel pump all the time...actually now that I think about it...I don't think it does

Because in my DSMLink V2 there is an option where you can have the fuel pump turned on all the time when the keys are in or car running...just like with the fans...so I'm guessing the reason for that is because it doesn't prime.

Yours does that too, I'll be driving and when I turn my turn signal on my fuel pumps goes from high to low pitches with my turn signal going from on to off. I thought I did the rewire wrong....woohoo, Im not alone :D

btw...mine primes walbro 255 96 tsi

The DSMLink option is so that you can use the DSM link to drain your tank at the track before switching to straight race fuel. It's a step up from just priming...the fuel pump will just straight stay on while the key is on with that setting turned on in the DSM Link.

As for my '96 Eclipse...my Walbro 255HP just recently started screaming quite loudly and I never noticed it priming before starting. Thankfully my new Walbro 190 pump came yesterday and is already installed..
