Timing cover gasket question.

Insted of purchasing a new timing belt cover gasket, could I use some Ultra Grey sealant in its place? I want to keep moisture away from my timing belt, and this seems like the best, most confined way. Has anybody tried this before?

The timing belt area is supposed to be ventilated. That's why the crank pulley has fins cast on it's backside; to pull excess heat out. Just make sure you have the stock plastic splash sheild in place between the engine bay and the drivers side wheel. That will keep the belts clean and dry.

Ok thank you! I was missing a gasket where there was one before, but I just used a small amount of sealant in its place. Thanks for the reply
