1G 90 GST ECU in a 91 TSI AWD

will my ecu from my 90 gst work in my 91 tsi awd?

my talon would not start, couldnt figure out why until tim from maximum velocity here in san antonio told a friend of mine that the ecu's from 1g's have been known to have a lot of problems. i had a feeling of that being why my car won't start because i was getting fuel, but no spark (i didnt check, but i had a feeling). so i was like what the hell, ill try my ecu from my 90 gst. so i slapped it on, and with the first turn of the key, it turned on.

my tsi usually took forever to start, but didnt know why. now, my car idles funny. are the 2 ecu's different? can i get mine rebuilt, if so, how much would it cost?

Yes, you can run a 90 in a 91. You have just to connect the #6 wire to the #14 wire and the #14 to the #6 wire on the ecu wires that plug into the ecu. Basically switch those wires and your car will run fine. Go to vfaq and then to electronics, then to 1g ecu pinouts. Youll see what im talking about, ask if you still have questions.

Ok every post on this says that you need to switch the wires but I put a 90 awd ecu in my 91 with out realizing the wires needed to be switched and my car seems to run fine. It’s been like this for a little over a year now. I guess my question is why does it seem to run fine?
