 I just got my agp 56 trim on my 96 eagle talon. I want to get the car dynoed and tuned asap, but I wanna get my major mods done before i get it tuned. I am considering hks 272 cams, sheet metal intake, apr head studs, aftermarket head gasket. If I get the cams, how important is it to get cam gears. With the car tuned by pruven performance, can someone give me an estimate of hp gains from each part. and possible total power. How important is it to change the head gasket and head studs? Which intake is the best for a 2g engine?
Thanx
Justin

i own a 4g37, but ive heard 4g63 head gaskets are both shitty and leaky, so make sure to get a good one, and get it closed up real good

A headgasket change is good if you have a lot of miles on your car and are starting to put some major boost to the motor. I looked at your list of mods and from what I see, a gasket replacement wouldn't hurt. My question is if you are looking at pulling the head, adding performance parts, and doing all this other work, why not have the head built?

u will need a full exhaust to run that turbo, your mod list says you only have a cat back, you will need a downpipe and either a highflow cat of a test pipe as well
you absolutly need the arp head studs, a cosmetic head gasket would also be a very good idea

there is no good intake manifold for a 2g engine, the 2g head has extremely small intake ports, putting a sheet metal intake on it is a waste of time and money, unless u port the hell out of the 2g head it wolnt give u much power
buy a 1g head, and buy a magnus sheet metal intake mani to go on that, you will also need a bigger throtle body, your stock one is 52mm, and will become a major restriction in your intake if you get a sheet metak intake and a 1g head, a 1g TB is 60mm, but you can get ones that are bigger then that if your set up needs larger then 60mm

and no one can give you any numbers for gains in power, how much power you gain is largely dependent on what turbo you have, what boost your running, how much porting you have done, how your fuel system is set up and tuned, and in general what parts are on the car
for example if you put a sheet metal intake on your car with your current mods it might make a 20whp gain, but if you had a 1g head, a larger throtle body, and free flowing exhaust system(turbo back, ported mani and o2), that same intake might make 40 or more whp on the same boost

Dude can you please stop posting in the tech section. Do you have a clue about anything you post? Please don't listen to this guy magnus makes a 2G specific manifold with smaller runners that match the intake ports in the 2G head.

Spdrcr7882:

Search the word magnus intake manifold. There is a very in-depth review of the 2G version in the archive.

i wasnt saying they dont make one, obviously there are at least 5 different ones out there, i was saying its pointless because the runners are so small, he could port his head or switch to a 1g head while its off the block already for studs and get a 1g intake mani, those small 2g runners arent going to make as much power as a 1g set up would, and with the head off already it would be a good time to switch

jdm you have a 1g head w/magnus on your car, would you want to put a 2g head w/magnus mani on your car in place of what you have? i doubt you would want those small runners under your hood, and if you wouldnt put it on your car why would you recomend it to him?

If your taking the head off HG is good and ARP studs is cheap insurance. Sheet metal intake is you have the money sure. Hks Recommends setting at 0,0 on cam gears. So I would for go it for the cost.

If you have the Extra $800 manifold and Cam gears would not hurt.

I just recently changed my setup and i have been without a computer for alittle so i have not had the chance to update my profile. I have an agp 65 trim turbo 780's, 2.5 inch turbo back exhaust with a test pipe. afc. maft, 3 inch maf. Ported exhaust manifold.2600 ckutch, light weight flywheel. All I really want is to have around 380ish horsepower to the wheels on pump gas, if I fall short and get 360 I will still be happy. i Am looking to do the next mod to get me closer to that goal. I Am still fairly new to this car, but I have learned tons from these forums. I Am pretty confident that a set of hks cams and manifold should be able to get me to the 380 mark, but I wanna be sure before i go doin the wrong thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I do have a 2G head and I do run the Magnus Intake manifold. And I ran 112 mph on a stock sidemount at 22 psi. Maybe I could have gone faster with a 1G head but frankly, the limit of the 2G head is a lot higher than most people give it credit for.

The 2g head has gone fast and is not 'bad', only tuned for a different application, namely port velocity and hence torque band.
