Who still has a 7 bolt?

still got mine, 90k pushing close to 350hp and waiting on new ETE32 turbo..

only prob i have is this jackass put my Timing belt on too tight a while back, now my oil pump seal leaks a bit.. maby 1/4 qt every 5000 miles, no biggie.

Still have mine in my lightly modded 97. Has a little over 60k. Just did the T-belt. Measured crankshaft endplay a while ago and it was still in spec. I need to measure it again.

395HP @22PSI on stock 7 bolt except HKS cams. Normal compression in all cylinders with over 100 passes. Project 6 bolt is currently underway a little earlier than expected since I grenaded my tranny a few weeks back so I chalked it up for this season. Winter will be here soon enough anyway here in Ohio:cry:

the thread sucks.

lots of people are using the 7bolt. nothing wrong with a 7bolt.

Maybe this is noobish of me, but I'm just getting into the whole DSM thing. I could tell you everything you'd want to know about a turbo Celica with a 3SGTE motor, but I'm a moron when it comes to the 4G63T.

What exactly is the diff. between a 7-bolt/6-bolt. I've seen a lot of discussion about it and don't have the slightest what you're talking about.

the "infamous" 7 bolt comes on the 95 through 99 DSMs, its called the 7 bolt because the flywheel has 7 bolts on it, the earlier 4g63 had 6 bolts..

the 7 bolt has a history/mythology/semi-factial life of getting what is called "crankwalk" in which case the thrust bearings on the crank gove way for *SOME* Reason and things go south..

some people thing ALL 7 bolts will get it, which is very untrue.. some say 50% some say 30% all have their reasons..

but the uneducated.. the people who know nothing about their cars except that it has "a crankwalk motor" do ALOT to exxagerate the crankwalk fear..

"Dude, i raised the boost on my 98 from stock to 22 psi on stock fuel and the piece of crap crankwalked and the motor blew.."

crankwalk didnt cause this.. YOU DID FOOL!!!

but anyway, thats the unscientific skinny on it...

Hey! I used to own a 3sgte 5th gen celi.. Then the frame got bent in a nice little accident, so now i have my turbo drop-top. :thumb:

(the eclipse is much more fun to play with, but... it likes for me to buy it new parts all the time.)

[edit]
I guess to try and contribute some info. The 6 bolt motors hold the flywheel on by 6 bolts. (They came on earlier DSM's)

7bolts came on the later dsm's. and are supposedly subject to crankwalk much more. (I still haven't seen a dsm that has crankwalked in person, yet i always seem to hear about it over the net.) I think a majority of it is people blaming their stupidity on a subject that has been blown way out of proportion. (to those of you that have walked, no hard feelings, it happens. *reason for a built 6 bolt though, right.?)

Still have my 7-bolt (130,857 miles), lighty modded - Throwing a gt30BB on it this winter as well as building up the internals

Crankwalk is a WAY overabused word - Take care of your car, show it the love it deserves and most won't walk (I say most becasue even great care can't stop a faulty desgin flaw)

People on this board are trying to make insane power out of 4cyl. and most here think they are race car drivers and drive it that way - why wouldn't they be prone to more damage - I am 100% sure that most people dont' get there Crank checked out before they start modding or they bought it second hand from someone that already abused it and didn't care for it.

But he failed to mention that his motor has been replaced in that car 2x before and is on its 3rd motor at 90k miles. that would raise a little concern if i was a 2g owner. crankwalk is real and its out there be warry of a 2g if you plan on making it fast, go with the six bolt motor build. i dont know a person thats owned a 2g that hasnt got crankwalk yet, but then again i dont know too many 2g owners. only reason wobbles motor is lasting is because its a supposed japanesse bottom end that fixed the crankwalk prob. with 7 bolts.

crap.. o forgot about that.. yea, this car is on its 3rd motor according to the previous owner, the first 2 walked (supposidly) and the 3rd they got from Japan... BUT.. ITS STILL A 7 BOLT!! LOL

BIIIG words from someone who tried to bolt thier water pump pulley to the crankshaft.

the 7 bolt has been around since half way through 92....but you don't hear much about the 1g with 7 bolts crankwalking much??? but there area alot of differences between the 1g motors and the 2g motors.

I also think crankwalk is blown out of proportion. To t90tsi, I am about to roll over 93,000 miles on the ORIGINAL 7 bolt motor on my car, I run 22-23 psi daily driving on my 50 trim. I drive my car hard, but I also maintain it. My motor is still running strong with no signs of crankwalk. I know a number of DSMers around here with both first and second gen DSMs and I have not met a single one who has crankwalked, however almost everybody has or has had transmission problems. I think the tranny is certainly the weaker point than the engine on DSMs.

Got 2 DSM's, both 7 -bolts, one at 80K miles, one at 90K. No problems (knock on wood!) so far, all within spec, daily driven (over 200 miles a week!).

I am planning on building a 6 bolt in the near future, however, so I can drop it into whichever dies first (both have DSMLink, so no problems). If I am going to replace the engine, may as well take less chances when I do it.

My 95 got 99k miles before it walked. I also remember reading somewhere that the 1g 7 bolts were assempled in Japan but the 2g 7 bolts were assembled here in the US. Maybe they know something over there that we dont?

i still have my 1g 7 bolt, even though 1g 7 bolts dont CW extremely easyly like 2g ones do i will still do a 6 bolt swap down the line
im not getting rid of my 7 bolt anytime soon, but im not planing on spending anything on internals for the 7 bolt, im going to keep buying bolt ons and supporting mods untill i get to the point when its time to drop a magnus 4g64 and a new turbo in the car

Still have my 7 bolt dont have much for mods but i do have act 2100 with 104drive about 500 miles aweek and no problems other than routine things ie fuel filter thermostat etc. tyler
