I just installed my PTE 54trim and I am very new to the turbo world. Here are some questions that I have:

93 AWD Talon with a JDM 6bolt.

1) Should the compressor housing get blistering hot to the touch?

2) The turbo came with a stainless steel braded line that you put into the lower plug on the oil filter housing... You then attach the line to the top of the turbo... How can I be sure that there is oil getting pushed into the PTE turbo?

Thanks in advance for the help...

Here are my current mods:
SAFC
2g MAS with K&N cone filter
4" FP intake
PTE 54trim
ACT 2600 with street disk
4 spyder center dif
Walbrah 255
680cc injectors
Modine all metal radiator
2 13" 1375CFM Spal fans
ATR 3" with down pipe
FP ported O2 housing
Any thing else? I dont remember...

i can shed some light i guess..yes the turbo is suppose to be blistering hot ont he turbine housing..if its not then there might be something wrong..
there shouldnt be any reason that oil isnt gong into your turbo unless the line is pinched..check the line for pinching..if theres no oil in the turbo then chances are, depending on how long you drove it like that, its not going to spin freely anymore..i think your being a worry wort..LOL..but its cool..i always check under my car for any fluids that leak and such which only surprises me anymore when there ISNT anything on the ground underneath my engine bay..take care

The compressor housing will get really hot under boost, probably too hot to touch.

If you want to be sure you're getting oil from that location, disconnect the spark plug wires at the coil, dis-connect the line at the turbo and crank it over a few seconds. If oil squirts out it's pushing oil through the line. You will want to put the line into a container to catch the oil also. ;)

Ah.. Thanks for the quick reply. I always thought that the compressor housing should stay somewhat cool but I dont see how thats possible being directly next to the exhaust manifold and also for the fact that it is directly connected to the turbine housing and O2 housing... :p

As for the oil, my main worries are that the line goes up hill... the oil filter housing is much lower than where it connects to the top of the PTE. If it is pumping the oil then I guess there should not be any problems with it going up hill... I just want to be absolutely certain because I dont have another $995 to buy another PTE :(

Thanks,
Daniel

Any engine has to pump oil from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the head. Its 80 plus psi, it'll make it ;)

I tested it by disconnecting it at the top of the turbo and then turning the engine on for less than 2 seconds... It pumped about 4-6 dixy cups of oil out.

Thanks for the help guys.

hahaha he measures oil in dixie cups... sorry, something funny about that :) I picture this Three Stooges'esque scene of one guy turning the key, then all this oil spurting out into one's face and the other rushing to catch it all with very small dixie cups.

Ok, I need to lay off the caffeine...
