NA,
Has anybody gone from a well-tuned 2g mas to a translator (particularly on a 1g)? What are your impressions (performance)? Please don't reply if you don't have experience with either, I don't need replies like "the gm maf will flow more cfm." I don't need help tuning, I'd just like some real-world performance comparsions/opinions. Thanks for any feedback.

Also, what differences did you notice, performance-wise, compared to a 1g mas?:talon:

I jumped from 1G Blaha mas to GM/MAFT and now 2G mas. I got good results from the Blaha mas. GM/MAFT spools up alittle quicker, turbo sounds louder but performance wise is the same.

I'm current running 2Gmas and although it doesnt spools up like the GM mas, top end is much better. I tuned it to no knocks and 24-25 timing. The reason I went with the 2Gmas because its proven. I ultilized SAFC and 550s injectors on all three MAS.

I will update you on how my current setup will performance (track wise) in the up coming week. It seems like everybody wants to go with GM/MAFT these days. Yet, I havent seen the result I expected from it. I guess people like the option of venting their BOV to the atmosphere. Oh well, I care about performance more than looks or attention.

no, it wont be fine without an AFC, when you WOT your car will flood with fuel and pop and sputter because at WOT the ecu has a pre set fuel map for a certing injector pulse.. which is MUCH larger with 550s..

As for the MAFT.. i dont like it, its expensive and is nowhere near as good as an AFC, you have to get out.. unscrew the little box, put it back together.. and get in.. every time you need to make an adjustment.. its irritating.. and unless your running a SUPER MONSTER and have like full 3" ic pipes and a GIANT intake manifold and everything super ported.. than the "more restrictive" 2g mas wont cause any flow probs.. people have gone into the 10s on a 2g mas.. its fine.

You will need SAFC to run 2Gmas and 550s. You also have to play around with the settings on the safc abit to get everything inline. I like my current setup so far (2Gmas, SAFC and 550s). The car idle perfect at 750rpm; not 760rpm or 740rpm.

I'm trying to tune my low-end to allow the turbo to spool up 2-300rpm sooner. My low fuel trim is only 88% Mid is 105% and Hi 117%. The car pulls hard to redline with no boost drops and EGT hits almost 800c top of 3rd. That should put me around 880c top of 4th.

I love looking at my timing curves :) Also, my O2 starts out something like .88 to .86 end of 3rd and .84 all the way through 4th. I'm tuning it at 15psi with 100 octane and it spools stronger than when I ran 18psi with the GM mas. Base fuel pressure is 36psi w/ vaccum hose on. IPW starts out 15 and end 16. I still have plenty of fuel left on this 550s. SAFC gives me more range of tuning and also allowing me to play around with my fuel curves (much more accessibility).

ok, I'LL GIVE my Impressions on both combos. I had the 2G MAS/AFC/660 combo in my car back in June. I had some boost leaks in the car and only got it to run a best of 12.27@111 on 93 octane.

Well, someone broke into the car and stole my 2G MAS, so then I swapped to the MAFT setup, blowthru. AFter instalilng it, I went back to the track, and went 12.21@112. I honestly can't say that the MAFT helped pick up that .06 sec. or not, or just a little better driving.

Anyways, fast forward to today. I fixed ALL the boost leaks I had, trust me there were TONS. I talked to Mike Licht about HOW to tune this thing and where I should set all the knobs and dipswitches according to my setup. After last weekend, I believe it helped me a LOT. The 2G MAS becomes a restriction at approx. the 450hp mark. Well, I'm just a hair over the 400 WHEEL hp mark.

If 11.50@119 on pump gas don't make a believer out of ya, then nothing will. As for the quicker spool up, I've never tried tuning the car to get the quickest spool up out of it yet. On the 2G MAS, I saw 23psi by 3700rpm with my FP Green. Dunno if I can get better than that, but if I do, I'll let you all know.
