I am gonna intall my rc 550's and I need a right up I cant see to find one. TIA

I don't know if anyone has ever written a write up on how to install injectors. Mainly because its a fairly easy thing to install. I will give you some pointers though to make it easier.

1. disconnect the battery (you should always do this anyway before you work on your car).

2. Make sure you release the fuel pressure so fuel doesnt spray everywhere. If the car has been sitting for awhile it probably wont have any.

3. unbolt the three bolts holding the fuel rail to the head. After you remove the bolts, gently pull up on the rail, it will probably be a bit snug.

4. Be careful not to lose the 3 black plastic spacers that rest between the head and the fuel rail.

5. Pull the old injectors out, and make sure you notice if the o-rings at the bottom are still connected to the injector. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they are stuck in the head. PULL THE O-RINGS OUT AND REPLACE THEM. Especially if they are the old plastic kind. In fact my stock o-rings were the plastic ones and were too small of a diamater to even fit around the Denso 660's I have. RRE sells rubber o-rings for about 10 bucks a set.

Also in this step...to remove the injector harness from the injector there SHOULD be a metal C-clip to remove.

6. Installation should be the reverse of removal. The hardest part is getting those 3 black spacers to sit correctly.

Oh, I should add that those are the steps for replacing the injectors on my 1g. I dont see why it would be much different on a 2g though.

this is a great thread it should be posted on tech articles and hey can you please post the website where they sell those O-rings because i need new ones for my rebuild project.

2G wiring harness doesn't use those awful C clips anymore. We have snaps. :)

It's cake, really.... well compared to dropping an engine. (cry)

Becareful with gasoline though and pavement, as it'll soften the pavement and ruin driveways.... I know this from personal experience. Carry LOTS of paper towels/plastic bags, because it will leak.

my parents are pissed about their driveway ... when i took out my engine the oil, coolant, power steering fluid and gasoline spilled all over the place

I've installed a rc 550 on my car over the weekdn and it
started to leak so I put the stock o rings that were on
the stock injectors, but never got a chance to crank it
up cuz i was afraid that it'll leak again.

The problem is when I first installed the 550 w/ the o ring
that I had and not the stock ones, and I turned it to on postion
it was making continous clicking noise and would go away for
a while and come back on, so I put the stock o rings on and
same occured so I'm thinking that its gonna leak again.
What is this clicking like noise??? Also one of the spacer is gone
So I have one spacer on each side, just one missing in the middle.
Would this cause anything, and I will be getting another spacer to
put in. Let me know if I just need to get new o rings or whichever.
Thanks

I am going to be installing my new fic 650 injectors this coming week so reading this thread with interest. So you can unclip and clip the injectors after you pull the rail up that would seem easier. There is enough slack in the injector harness.

So both gens use these plastic spacer things.?

My injectors don't use the bottom stock hard seals.

I also have a set of 550's laying around my house that I want to put in. I have a question as well. If I go and get a stock o-ring kit, will that work with RC 550's?

Suggestions:
I had to change the fuel injectors on my 240sx once and I learned that a good way to releave fuel pressure is to:
1. Remove gas cap.
2. Pull out your fuel pump Fuse
3. Start the car until it dies
4. Crank it several more times
5. unhook Battery and get to work

I dunno if this is such a good idea but I just thought I would share that with the people who might be doing this themselves

the black o-rings twoliterv8etc talks about are not o-rings, rather insulators. o=rings are on top of the injector and plug into the rail.

some caution with the rre insulators: theyre too large for the stock injectors. trust me, i know from personal experience.

So the insulator doesn't go inside the fuel rail like the o ring?
Would the stock o rings work for my rc injectors???

only o rings go inside the rail .... insulators rest right below the rail. You can use your stock orings but I recommend you go to your dealership and buy 4 new ones and just use those. ( just in case you break one and I figure why not replace them while you can )

Kool thanks for your help.
One more thing...the stock o rings are on the injectors right now.
If they didn't rip and etc and its on correctly, it shouldn't
make any clicking noise continously for a while rite???

Umm..all injectors make a ticking /clicking noise. Some more than others. If they aren't leaking they should be in right. It should be simple .If you have stock injectors they use the factory bottom seals .If you have Fic types they don't need the bottom factory seals.

What's Fic type???
I know that the injectors make clicking noise when the car is on, but
the car was never on, the key was just turned two clicks to ON position.

Fic are fuel injector clinic injectors..they use their own seals not the factory type. A lot of dsm companies are selling this type.
But anyway again not sure what you mean they click when you turn the key.so what .If they are installed right then thats that.Start the car up already..

Ok sorry didn't read your post carefully. You have rc550 injectors.so not sure if they use the stock bottom things or are like the fic injectors that don't.But they shouldn't leak if things are right.

I guess I will quit trying to help here ,maybe just making things worse.I hope don't have these problems when I put my new injectors in this week.:(

Like dsmturboawd said the insulators are on the bottom of the injector around the pintle in fitting into the head. The part right below the rail is called a gromit in the service manual or injector sheet in CAPS.

Yes, you should replace them. Also, for anyone that asked, RC and Denso injectors require the lower insulator. If possible get the replacement o-rings from the dealership being that they are slightly thicker than what most places sell. When installing the injectors, lube the o-rings and the side of the pintles so they slide in easier. MAKE SURE NOT TO GET ANY ON THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF THE INJECTORS WHERE THE FUEL WOULD ENTER AND EXIT UNLESS YOU USED GASOLINE FOR LUBE.
