My mechanic and i are stumped as to what can be causing the idle surge in my car. I recently spun a bearing in my 93 Tsi fwd and swapped out my old motor for a Jspec motor. Car is running great, pulls hard and everything, but at idle, it jumps up and down from about 1000rpms to 2000rpms and back down. At first we thought that it could be the throttle cable cuz it was sticking a little bit so we re-did that and nothing. Next step was to clean the EGR and make sure the injectors were good. NO luck. We took it a step further and replaced the BISS screw and threw in a new "O" ring. Still nothing. So, we figured it could be the expensive ass ISC motor so we switched it out for a new one but no dice. Maybe the Intake manifold gasket is kinked and is leaking we thought....took off the intake manifold swapped it out for a brand new metal gasket from mitsu. STILL NOTHING! its getting pretty annoying sitting there at a light and having my car idle jumping up and down. The weird thing is, when i turn on my AC, the idle stays steady for a few minutes and starts up again. Then stays steady and starts jumping again. He knows VERY much about DSM's but he has no idea what else it can be. He even tried calling a mitsu "guru" that knows even more than him but he doesnt know what it can be either. He checked my car for vaccum leaks and everything but still nothing. Anyone here have any ideas of what else it can be? He's pulling out my ECU as we speak to check it...maybe its that.
