I am looking into upgrading my stock 2g bov and after looking at the different types it got me to thinking. does the kind that dumps the air into the atmosphere screw up the a/f ratio since the mas air is sensing air going in but then it gets dumped into the atmosphere before it goes into the engine. does the engine richen up before the next spoolup.

Which kind of BOV would you recommend. I also plan to upgrade intercooler piping so i wont have to worry about the flange adapter

Yes it messes with the A/F ratio, and you will run rich. I personally like the crushed 1G bov or the SSQ. But if you get a stand alone or a GM MAF Translator you wont have to worry about venting back into the intake.

With GM MAFT set-up, it has to be a blow-through set-up (sensor AFTER BOV).

DO NOT VENT STOCK.

You're stealing already metered air from the engine.

im sure i will get flamed for this, but it depends on the car. my friend has a gvr4, and a turbo xs rfl, and has no problems. i can't explain why there are no problems, just every car reacts differently to things.

I never planned on it until I decided to set my maft up in blowthrough just for the hell of it, now I'm hooked :thumb: on that sound

Get HKS SSQV, you'll be even more hooked. :D

I can. Your friends car had problems. Your friend was not venting the stock BOV so there would be no leakage, thus, no bad idle. The only bad he has is bad gas mileage and black spark plugs from it going rich inbetween shifts from the loss of metered air. There is not car that is gonna magically compensate for a vented BOV.

Dont do it unless you have good reason to.

I'll have a reason once I install that GM MAFT blow-through set-up. :D

But I think I'll route a hose all the way to the back of the car from the BOV so I don't have to hear it and get annoyed by it.

the biggest prob you'll have is a rough idle, tho it's rare when that happens on my car. If you can deal with that, and just love the sounds then go for it. I have turboXS type H I'm tryin to sell for 110 shipped.

nah, I've had it vented for about 6 months now and it still puts a grin on my face when it makes heads turn :thumb:

SSSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss...... Psssssshhhssssssssssssssssssssss........

Why is this in Advanced Performance?

Will an apex S-AFC be sufficient to safely vent the Turbo XS rfl to the atmosphere? Or do you need a VPC, MAF transalator, or something else?

I agree it becomes very annoying when you are trying to just drive or you are in a shitty mood. My RFL vents very loud at even 2 psi.
