alright i bought these from sbr and they told me they work on stock cam gears. I am still in the middle of putting my head together when some one tells me i need to shave my valve guides? i have the crower springs and retainers. DO I NEED TO SHAVE THEM and also i have heard that the cams are degreed wrong from crower is this true? please help me out

The last set of Crower cams I degreed in, (with a set of AEM cams gears set at zero) came out at 1degree retarded on the intake cam, and 3 degrees advanced on the exhaust cam. they were crower stage 2 cams.

The reason for cutting down the valve guides is to provide enough retainer to guide clearence. You will have to measure what your clearence is, or have someone else do it before you will be able to determine if they need to be cut, and if so by how much.

If doing this remember to compensate for the valve seals, since they sit on top of the valve guides.

what do you think would happen if i just used stock cam gears on them? would it just not perform as well or would i be off to much and bend up my nice valve job i just did?

That would be impossible to say, without checking them to see where they are at.

How exactly do you determine if the cams are degreed right? I understand how to line up all the timing marks but how do you know if the lobes are pointing exactly the right way?

I doubt it would bend valves. More than likely your idle would suck and the powerband would be VERY peaky.

Sorry for bringing this thread back but just got cam gears for the car. Yes the power has been very peaky, and my idle has been crazy ruff flicking between 7-10 lbs vacume. Does anybody have an idea what adjustment I should play with. Intake or exhaust?
