if i get a big 28 turbo what mods would i have to have done?
is ti a direct bolt on
what kinda time improves can i look for when compared to a stock gsx?

If you know of the Big 28 you should already know that it's a bolt-on. It is a great turbo, had one on my car for over 6 months now. Makes for a very fast yet VERY streetable 2g. Good driving and some racegas will net you 12.5s at the track with it.

Tom

Yes it's a direct bolt on!
this you should atleast have to make the turbo run good
1. 3 inch down pipe
2. 3 inch Cat back
3. Intake
4. upper piping w/BOV
5. AFC
6. Boost controller
7. walboro fuel pump
you should be running decent then and make sure you get to the dyno to get it tuned properly good luck !

I have the FP Big28 along with what mods that are in my profile. I have pulled on c5 vettes, ss camaros, numerous mustangs, hondas with 75 shots etc. I guestimate I'm making close to 340 to 350 hp at the crank, depending on air temps and humidity.

Throw in a 50-75 shot and you're making as much power as a 50 trim at the flip of a switch and retain that stock driveability we all desire when not WOT.

Tom

I went with the BIG28 Killer and have had it on my car since March. I love this lil guy! With the stock SMIC and running 15 psi 2nd breaks loose at WOT every time. I can't wait to get a FMIC and 550's, the killer is gonna pack a nasty punch.

Any Big 28 is gonna make you happy. Just my $0.02 for you thou.

well i have to get the nessecities first then i will most likely get the 28 turbo

also nice to hear from people in the northwest

get a 16G EVO III :)

For what a T28 is going for now you can get the 16G EVO III including a 2G kit and have a better turbo. Plus as a bonus, unlike the T28, should you ever decided to slap on a 18G or bigger you can do that. With the T28 you're pretty much stuck w/ that turbo.

Take a look at Forced Performance and the combo deals they have now on the EVO III. Pretty frikkin badass if ya ask me.

>Good driving and some racegas will net you 12.5s at the track with it.

First of all, good driving and some race gas will get a 2G with a 14b turbo into 12.5s :). BigT28 turbo has claims of flowing more than a 16G. And since many 16G equipped 2Gs are in high 11s, T28s should be deep into 11’s. I do not know about you, but I haven’t seen many of them even matching 16G performance, never mind beating it.

Most of guys that I know who got “any” T28, regretted it after going head to head against 16G’s at the track…

I'll let others respond directly to that if they need to, but at least at the autox "any" T28 will run circles around a 16g given everything else equal, relatively speaking of course. ;)

I have personally never witnessed a 2g with a 14b running mid 12's without switching to a 1g tb, intake manifold, and 1g head. For that being said the 16g has been out for years compared to the FP Big28 that has been out for only 2 years, there is way more people out there with tuning experience with the 16g compared to the FP Big28, if indeed that's the turbo everybody is referring to, because there is a difference between the older FP T28/28 and the latest FP Big28 version. People are starting to get great times out of the FP Big28, from just looking at DSMTIMES.ORG, there is several 2g awd's running 111 to 112 traps without nitrous, as with a few 2g fwd's running 111 traps, and then you have larryd that has run 109 traps. So... I think the FP Big28 is now starting to show it's ability, after all it's only rated at 360 crank hp so what more would you expect.

FP can make any turbo a external. My firned just got his 2544 turned from a internal to external. But then you have added price of the wastegate and the o2 housing/manifold to hold the WG. the turbo has preformed all the times listed with the internal so why pay more?? I just bought a FP BT28 and cant wait to install it. Got a VP external dump, FP ported Mani and am slowly building up the hardwre to install it in about 2 weeks. A friend ran 12.7 with a BT28, now you may think, so, but that is at 4,000 ft elevation. Even on thin air this turbo works.

Even though the 16G is older and better referenced, dont count this bad boy out. Besides it looks completly stock (if you are into sleepers)

That is indeed a very good time, especially at 4000 ft. above sea level. That would probably translate to a 12.2 or 12.4 at sea level. Do you by chance remember what he trapped at, and what his exact mods are? Thanks!!

Traps on the dsmtimes are 111.15 with a 2.055 60 ft. as for mods, big greddy FMIC, intake, DSMlink, Prof B, TR&D catback, 2.5" o2 housing/downpipe/testpipe, slicks, and a good suspension. (I think I forgot to mention he is FWD just like me.) I also know of another local DSMer had a gt25 with good power putting down great times, (also fwd) and a recently converted AWD to FWD (he still has both but drives the FWD and likes it pretty well). Has not ran it and the track just closed last weekend, but the 5 of us FWDs and a mass of AWDs are going to be out in force next year. Alot of us post our times at www.dsmtimes.org

Acouple of locals and their posts.

FWD:
3 10.073 147.34 6.721 115.26 1.766 92 Talon TSi T4 Secret YES Gavin Winn
36 12.752 111.15 8.302 87.60 2.055 97 Eclipse GST FP Big 28 NO Taylor Hinton
38 12.817 111.22 8.390 88.09 2.099 91 Talon TSi AUTO small 16g YES Geoff Lissaman
51 13.069 107.32 8.504 85.67 2.104 97 Eclipse GST T28 NO Andy Warren Utah DSM

So yes, a small turbo can make you quick, even FWD at high altitude. (true Gavins turbo aint small, but he just ran a 10.00 on friday, I hope they post it)

Did we get off subject on this post or what, sorry Patter$on

That's cool. Yeah.. I've seen the times list over at dsmtimes.org, I have pretty much the same mods as Taylor Hinton if that's who you are referring to except I'm using the s-afc instead of dsmlink, and I'm running on Nitto drag radials. I'm at 2210ft in elevation. Thanks for the info.:thumb:
