Has anyone done their cat-back under the rear axle?

I went to a muffler shop and he said he could do my cat-back under the rear axle so that it doesn't bend like stock does and allows better flow.
There are a few cars here that have done it and it works perfectly.
Should i do it?
Has anyone here done it?

Yes, it's quite common for an aftermarket exhaust......which ones don't go under the axle?
That's a really good Q...LOL.

i think i'm missing something here,
i mean to exit the exhaust in a way that it doesn't bend like stock positioned exhaust, straight to the muffler.

I haven't seen it personally so i really can't describe it

I know for a fact Greddy Evo goes under the axle. I'm not sure about others though.

For the AWD cars, even the stock exhaust hangs under the rear axle. for FWD cars, it goes over the axle. I'm sure you could route your exhaust under the axle in a FWD car, but you will run into some problems when the suspension is at full travel.

Your best bet is to buy an exhaust that goes over the axle. I talked to several exhaust shops and none of them thought it was possible to bend 3" piping over the axle in my 1g. They said 2.5" was as big as they could go. I ordered a 3" exhaust a long time ago from a vender I no longer recomend, although the exhaust is a 3" system and it easily clears over the axle. Most of the reputable DSM venders sell a 3" exhaust routed through factory locations.

i think v8 eater cleared it up pretty good, if ur awd it had to run under the axel, it cant go above it because there isnt any room due to the awd components, for fwd most 3" exhausts still go under the axel because it would crush the pipe between the axel and the undercarage when u hit a bump if it didnt, but iv seen 2.5" go over the axel, and im sure there are some track cars that never see bumpsthat have a 3" run above the axel, but u only have that option if ur fwd
as long as ur exhaust is manderal bent its flowing about as good as a straight pipe, thats y we pay more for manderal bent exhaust systems, running i above urt axel is going to give u a minimal power gain, if any noticable gain at all, over a manderal bent pipe under ur axel
just get a 3" thats manderal bent running under ur axel, my friend has an extreme technologys 3" turbo back on his 2g fwd and it goes under the axel and flows fine, it actually leaves more room for the muffler, if it did run over the axel there would have to be another more drastic bend to make the muffler point out the rear of the car and still clear the undercarage

My 3" goes OVER the rear axle, it is mandrel bent. To avoid the harsh bends teh muffler is coming down at an angle, and the tip of the exhaust points straight out the back of the car. The muffler is ATR brand but i'm not sure if the whole exhaust is made by them or not.
