ya i was wondering what everyone thinks about pulley and espeacailly the crank pulley. is it ok to do a crank pulley or should i just do all the others and leave the crank off?? what kind of gains are you looking at supras get good gains but dsms are diff. what do ya'll think and also brands unorthodox racing? MachV ? anyone eles???

As far as Underdrive Crankshaft Pullies go, everyone will recomend a lightweight crankshaft dampener pulley, make sure you buy one with a dampener to help keep the crank assembly balanced and low on vibrations, It will run you about $350 but won't hurt your mortor and you will gain perfromance.

we had this discussion the other day on another thread, just getting a crank pully is a horrible idea, if ur going to get anything get every single pully and install them all at once, if u get a crank pully and leave all the others stock it will mess up the speed of ur accesories and make ur car run like crap, either get them all or dont get anything
unless the new pully is the EXACT same size as ur stock pully it will only mess up ur accesory speeds, changing every other pully and leaving the crank pully stock will make ur accesories spin faster instead of slower, which wolnt make ur car run as bad as just a crank pully but its not making it run any better, get a full matching set of pullys all at once or dont get any

oh yea, power gains from pulys are made from the pullys being lighter, meaning less weight for the engine to rotate, not from pully size, getting a different size pully will only make ur alternator and other accesories not work right, unless u get every pully ur not going to see any positive results
getting a full set of smaller pullys will mean less weight, but make sure u get a full matching set, because of the size ratio of the pullys isnt the same as it was stock ur accesories wolnt spin at the correct speed

I think that's a good idea too.

Yes, we absolutely did. And not just that once either-- this is a pretty common question. Searching will do wonders....

IMO, gains are minimal but there are still reasons to do this. Leon will disagree.... :D

as long as u get every single pulley from the same brand as a set its a good ides, even if not for the small ammount of power gain its better to have metal pulleys then plastic ones, just make sure u dont buy onl a crank pully, ur alternaror wolnt spin at the correct speed and thats going to cause numerous problems

That is the first time I've heard that. I have been running a fisher concept underdrive damper crank pulley for some time now. I haven't had any trouble, I did notice a little more top end power and my boost went up a pound.

I can understand the thinking behind replacing all of the pullies with the same brand, but like bob said, it has been proven to have performance gains from one Quality Crankshaft pulley. This would be an upgrade alone just because it would be less likely for the dampener to seperate like the OEM pulley.
