I am stuck between two pistons. I like CP pistons and I like Ross. The engine will be sitting around the 400-420hp area. Does anyone have objections to either of these pistons.

If the engine is only making 400-420HP, I wouldn't have any objections against using the stock pistons, as they've been proven to work well over the 400 crank HP range.

Having said that, I used Ross's in my engine, but I'm well over the 400 crank HP mark (or 500 crank HP mark for that matter; OFF the bottle ;) )

both pistons are great quality Ross doesn't have the brand new topend machinery to build the pistons as CP does they are very tight on the machining of the piston tops to keep hot spots down...

either piston will take much more power then 400whp

I have Ross. I would recomend them to anybody. A very good piston for the money. Good luck. :talon: :thumb:

what kind of heat expansion do these pistons have. I will be thermal coating the tops and if i get the cp fricton coating the sides. I believe that ross does that already to their race pistons. I have pauter rods and a knife edged crank. Nothing too radical, I want a piston that can take a real beating, because I take it to road race events all the time, so it will see alot of punishment.

Ross probably has the most modern equipment of all the piston companies. They updated not that long ago.

Second the Wiseco vote. I got Wiseco and Carillo rods. I have used them in everything from dirtbikes to V8's and they have always held up fine. Why pay more then you have to? A name? They have been in the biz for a long time. Blowers, NOS, high compression V8's no prob. It's what the pro's use.

weisco and je are the same company je is their stronger line is made out of a superior alloy then weiscos,

the ross is made of teh same material as je and cp but cp right now is doing the best with their new machinery on their piston tops...

btw i sell these things all day long...

Bill

ross , arias, Je and weisco are all good pistons just depends on what your gonna use it for...

each one has better thigns about them

Are you sure about that? Wiseco is located in Mentor, Ohio while JE is located in Huntington Beach, Ca. I believe you're thinking of JE and SRP pistons which are the same company.

Wiseco has reputation for originating in the Motocross and 2-stroke world from over 25 years ago.

JE has a reputation for a top supplier for Nascar and drag racing for the last 20 years at least.

Oh ya, and it's spelled WISECO....... I would think that if you sold them all day long you'd know that.

i sometimes wonder if people come on here just to vent their personal frustrations. there is just too much hate mail. it's getting very old. see i just did it! why do i even care. ok all of your guys cars are better than mine, and i suck. there now i have nowhere to go but up!:D

LOL. LOL. Hey are both you guys smokin crack? i.e. (psi2hi-larryriverside) Did everyone forget that I sold the laser and got an AWD. and it was stock internals vary minor bolt-ons. Mid 14s thats it. not bad for no traction in first or sec. gear. Ok now I've totally hijacked this thread so I'll shut up now. By the way Nick, Is my valve cover ready yet. Don't tell me you forgot. LOL. Later.

Well If your going to make over 400 hosepower and want it to live for a while, I would definately buy aftermarket pistons. Wht would you go through all the effort of rebuilding an engine just to cheap out on stock cast pistons. Not that I dont' like the stockers, I do. But the type of driving/abuse that you plan on subjecting your engine to, they wont hold up forever. If you have a minor glitch in your tuning (even for just a couple of seconds) some damage could occur. Possibly catastrophic. Wouldn't you feel better off knowing that the forged ones in your engine will hold up to the abuse? As far as which company to purchase, I'ts more of a personal preference/ price issue more than anything. All of the companies listed above have been in buisiness longer than most of us have been behind the wheel. (legally that is). I wouldnt have a problem with running any one of them. Most piston failures aren't the pistons problem but a problem with the loose nut behind the wheel. just my two cents worth.
