Track Tunning- Black Smoke in Third? Need info fast!

I need some help. My brother is running the car at Sac. I had to work so I had him run time trials. We put 114 octane in the car, took off the exhaust pipe connected to the muffler. Boosting at 1.60 bar @70% duty cycle, my friend said he saw black smoke come out the car in third. My brother hit a 13.9 but he said after powershifting 1st & 2nd he shifted third and had to lay off the gas cuz of miss shifting, then put the car in third and after some lag, then the car boosted. They Hit EGT's of 800c with 720cc injectors. My EGT probe is in the #1 runner. WIth black smoke commin out, (god knows what happened) is the car still too rich or is black smoke an indication of something? According to my brother, he said the car was running smoothly but his driving skills were not that great. Any suggestions? Ill be runnning the car tomorrow 4/7/02, so Id like to hopefully get feedback before then. Thank for all who reply.
 
black smoke actually seems to be a common thing on DSMs.. mine did that alot with the T25 under boost and full throttle.. I would spurt out a black cloud.. friends did the same thing too
 
WHAT A FREAKIN NIGHTMARE!!!!

After some thinking, on the last run, I called my brother to slap on the exhaust piece they took off....................and after all this time of thinking we were gaining power off unbolting the muffler, we were wrong. We were hitting 13.9 , 14.0. They would get awsome 1st & 2nd gear runs, but as soon as they threw it third, they tell me my car boggs and the car doesnt boost until 5000rpm. Last run with everything on, they were able to hit 13.5 with bad 60ft times and EGT's hitting 820c @ 1.60 peak boost. Im the only one who knows how to run the car and lean things out to make more power. Im hoping to break the 12's at least tomorrow. Think its possible?
 
I had one run only on Sunday. No test and tune, straight to Eliminations. I thought that was BS! They said Saturday, id get one test run before Eliminations. So I didnt have enough info to tune the car on race gas, or adjust the duty cycle on my AVCR. I was nervous, cuz I didnt know what I was gonna do or how to tune without a test run. First time at the track, no proper tuning, I ran a reallllllllllllllllly crappppppppppppy 14.3 @ 104mph, 60ft 2.65. Tires spinnnnning out like crazy and to top things off, I thought I saw the third xmas tree amber light up so I took off and saw the RED LIGHT come on. I drove the car and thought I might as well just keep going, so I just gunnned it. My top end was awsome, but 60ft was crappy. The best time the car ran on saturday was 13.5 @ 105mph 60ft 2.3 and reaction of .72 secs and EGT's hitting 820C on 1.61 peak boost that leveled off to 1.4 bar. I need tunning bad.
