I just recieved my PTE 54 trim...internal gate.... i didnt notice anything wrong untill i got it all installed and everything and fired up the car for the first time... well... it sounded like i have a NASTY exhaust leak... well.. i pulled the o2 housing back off and took a look... and yup... check this out... it is open between the wastegate hole and the turbine hole.... whats up with this??? oh... the reason it sounds so bad is because my o2 housing dumps to the atmosphere... so now EVERYTHING dumps right out that pipe....... wft???? you guys know why it might be like this???

time to go back to an internal dump. pte did this to prevent boost creep. next time before you do a big ticket purchase search, search, SEARCH!!! theres a couple of threads on PTE turbos and that came up in them.

 I DID do many searches ... and I have never heard of this... as a matter of fact, here is pte's website with a picture of one.... WITH the middle of it still there.... http://www.precisionte.com/sportcompact/Mitsubishi.jpg they dont say anything about it on the website i bought it on, and they dont say anything on it on pte's website.... i just think that if that IS the case, then they should make this a little more obvious to the consumer..... I have a feeling that I am not alone here...

those BASTARDS! they probably killed kenny too!

Yeah I had a similar experience when i bought my 19C from extreme. theres no outlet nippe to measure boost and no one told me to T into my UPPER i/c piping so i waited a week b4 i c ould do it. It really sucked, i hate companies that dont tell u everything u need to know.

Ash,

Just adjust the rod on the internal gate so the puck stays shut at idle. I bet the wastegate rod is adjusted to a point where the puck is not fully seated with car off, leaking at idle. Don't you go welding up that opening, they've put it there to help with boost creep.

itll still leak from the turbine hole

wrong, right.

You can weld up a piece of steel back in there. That is what PTE did to mine. So what if it creeps a bit. Mine is running like like 25psi right now, because my actuator is too short. You shouldnt creep past about 22psi. So tune for 22psi. Otherwise, go back to internal. And as far as not realising this... Didnt you look the turbo over when you got it?? Its right there to see.

thats what i guess im going to have to do.... is there any special place i have to go to get this done (the welding)? can i take it to a muffler shop or something? as far as not noticing it when i first got the turbo... well... to be honest, i was so excited about it that i just slapped it in the car... :) i did look it over, but didnt even notice.... till it was all loud later and i started thinking...... i was like "hmmm.... now that i think about it.... it did look a little funny......" ... oh well... i appreciate the help guys! :thumb:

pull the turbo off and call pte and explain your predicament. they will most likely send you a new turbine housing. ive heard they do that with no problems.

for anyone curious, i called PTE up this morning and they said that nomally it is NOT milled out... Joe said that it was something that is only done if requested.... He said that I could just send it back to them and they would swap out the turbine housing for free... problem solved....

When I ordered my 56 trim, I requested that it not be milled out and they said we do that to all of them. Now they are saying that they only mill by request. I think they have their shit mixed up!

Why do you think *EVERYTHING* dumps from the wastegate dump tube. Its just a tiny 2" divider at the most. Your exhaust gas will travel the path of least resistance anyway. The little bit of exhaust that exits through the wastegate dump tube at idle will not hurt anything. At most you will just have an annoying sound at idle.

heh, well, you know what i meant... i know a good bit of it is still going out the regular exhaust, but it is more then just a little annoying... its just NASTY annoying...

exactly the opposite happened to me, i wanted 1 w/the divider removed, they sent me 1 with the divider, i called and they sent me a new 1 with the divider removed and guess what i still have on my desk at work, the turbine housing with divider in place. the divider removed is supposed to help w/boost creep on the internal w/g but u cant dump it as u have a continual exhaust leak, it was all over here and talk about the divider option .
