My TiAL came in the mail today, however, it only came with one flange. Since I can't mount it right on the o2 housing like you guys can, I have to have a pipe and a flange welded onto my up pipe and mount it there.

The only way I can get this thing on soon, is to use the flange it came with for the mount, and have the wastegate dump open- straight from the wastegate. Is there any risk in doing this? I know its going to heat up the engine bay, but I am running open downpipe right under the engine bay anyway.

There's some more pics of the custom setup if that clarify's anything for anyone, I'd just like to know so I can weld the internal wastegate shut and use this to actually booooost.

Thanks,
Sam

it isnt going to hurt anything, my friend runs an open wastegate on his turbo civic, he just welded a pipe onto the dump tube that goes down and just about out of the engine bay, maybe 3 or 4 inches off the ground, so it dumps the hot air under the car and it gets carried away by the air flowing under the car at speed instead of just dumpng into the engine bay

Why are you asking on a DSM website?

Well because I figured turbo DSM guys know what they are talking about, and this is one of the biggest recources for that. I also figured most would be willing to share the information (maybe you're the exception) but the several other questions I have asked on here have been met with enthusiatic and helpful responses, just not yours.

Thanks Cirus_93TSI :thumb: I have an answer to my question.

it depends on exactly where the gate dumps. you really dont want to dump 1500* exhaust gas on anything in the engine bay.

Sam,

You should be OK as a temporally measure. I have done it several times on my DSM, when dump tube was not available. However, I would not make a habit of this. Leaving it this was permanently is NOT a good idea…

Also, you want to use your head for your particular application. If it dumps hot gases on something that can ether melt or catch on fire DO NOT run high boost. Keep it under the set boost level and that WG will be no different from any other exhaust pipe.
