has anyone here ever used those grounding wires that are advertised in the import tuners and sports compact just curious i heard that they got an n/a 1g runnin wit 200hp just wit those a cai header and high flow exhaust and something else minor i don't remember i think pullys either way seemed a lil far fetched to me but hell i don't know i've never even heard of the things until like a week ago
 
what do u mean by grounding wires? are u talking about just ground wires for the battery? or the kind of plug wires taht need to be grounded?
 
Hey exploited that is one COOL car you got there. I like how you didn't paint the body kit before putting it on.
 
what do they come with stock? 135? there is no way that CAI/Header/Exhaust/Pulleys/and wire grounding kit will bring it to 200...maybe 150-160...not 200.

And as far as the grounding kit...a lot of the Celica guys have got those kits since they hardly had anything for their cars...they mentioned that after buying them the car ran smoother...had slightly better response...and have dynoed around 2-5hp more...although 2hp could just be a difference in the dynos 1% error rate...so they do do something but not much.
 
an n/a might be able to make 200 bhp with a little more work then u said, but i doubt it, and who measures their hp on an engine dyno? if it supposidly made 200 whp its clearly a lie, it might make 160 at the wheels with those mods if they were lucky, its not making 200 at the wheels with those mods unless it had a nitrous kit or a turbo
as for the grounding kit, in an import tuner i was looking at the other day they put a 3" catback, a cone shaped intake filter(not an intake, just a foam filter), and a grounding kit on a 92 gsx and it made 28 whp over stock measured on an awd dyno, i believe the grounding kit gave it 8 or 9 whp, but they said to take a few hours and find some really good ground points, if u do it half assed u wasted ur money cause it defetes the point of a grounding kit
 
I put together a home-made gounding kit over the weekend. I used 4 gauge wire rather than the 8 gauge included in most of the kits I have seen advertised. I am babying a worn clutch so I can't really tell if there is a power improvement, imagined or otherwise.

Whether it works or not, I would recommend the do it yourself kit. It's not difficult, it costs less, and the huge any-color-you-want wire and gold connectors look cool as heck.
 
check out last monthes import tuner. they do a hyper ground wire system on a 92 tsi awd. gain of 8 hp and 9lbs of torque. they even give you the grounding points they used. i of course copied it and for cheap (hence free) since i work at an audio shop.
 
I've read that the gains are temporary as the computer adjusts to it and gets things back to normal. I don't really understand this but aparently it is necessary to occasionally disconnect it and run without for a while then reconnect. Anyone know anything about this?

I have a 1G also, what points did you use for your car, picks would be cool?

I have my battery mounted in the hatch area, so any suggestions for running the daisy chain type where you connect all the grounds to the negative terminal of the battery?

1.) My one idea would be to run a 4 gauge from the negative terminal through the subframe like I currently have my positive wire ran, but run the negative in the other sub-frame that runs back to front. Or if you don’t want to drill a hole or two into the sub-frame, weld or braise conduit connectors to the frame and run the wire through that.

2.) I would then make a bracket with three holes in it.
a. Weld or braise – I would get a ½” bolt x 1” long shoulder, put it through the middle of the bracket>weld the head to the bracket> and weld the end of the bolt to the frame

b. Drill>thread and bolt – bolt might come loose b/c of the short thread through the frame b/c depending on where the mounting point is at, you prolly can’t get a self locking nut on the back of the bolt.

3.) The other two holes > one for bolting the 4 gauge ground wire > and the other to bolt however many 8 gauge or larger wires to as you want.

Alternative, buy cheaper connectors and just weld or braise everything to the bracket > this would keep a good ground in any condition.

Technical notes: Go to your local hardware store, pay $30 bones for a setup kit for MAP gas and steel braising rod. You’ll be able to use this for other projects such as exhaust leaks if you get them or other brackets to hold custom stuff in place. You can also use to heat up those bolts on the car that are rusted on or to hard to break loose.

Let me know what you think guys. I haven't done this yet b/c I am currently spending time on getting another engine ready to put in my car.
 
A buddy of mine showed me an article from a magazine where they got a 5.4 hp gain and 16.4 ft/lbs ON THE DYNO on a 1g Turbo DSM from a grounding kit.

Haven't done the mod, YET, but I plan on it :D
