I am experiencing fuel cut so I am unable to find the power band within the predicted RPM range. A fuel system upgrade is still in the works.
In a "stock" 1992 Tsi AWD What range is the power band within?

Thanks

not sure to answer your question since I know the power band on 14b is diff then a T25 that Im more familiar with but I wanted to ask u a question.. you said your bone stock and your hitting fuel cut?? did you turn up the boost or something??

No,
I haven't turned up the boost. Then again I don't have a reliable boost gauge yet either, so I don't want to risk it. I just bought this car and haven't had a chance to do anything but replace the clutch in it yet. It's very hard to tell you what my boost level is but it seems to be more than the fuel system can handle. I know it's far from a DSM but when I was building Mustangs with supercharged induction without beefing up the fuel system you could feel it bog down at high RPM's.

The Talon seems to be doing the same thing. It is the factory turbo and I've checked out the ignition system. I know the airway is not restricted so that was my only theory "Fuel Cut". I had previously read it was a problem with turbocharged DSM's. Is this true with factory or just modified?

Still need to know the power band range in RPM if you happen to know, I can't find it in VFAQ, Talon Digest, or any previous posts.

Thanks

I think i might know wat's going on

the car is stock? air box and everything if so that is limiting your airflow at those high RPM's

get an K&N, exhaust .......that should help the top end out a bit

Airbox is cut. Same results. I don't think it's an air issue. The only thing with the exhaust is a high flow muffler w/5" tip 3" inner diameter. Still has factory downpipe, cat, and factory piping. It's a possibility that the exhaust is restricted...but that much?

i have a 91awd talon n ill tell you the power band is from aprox. 3600-6700......whats ur boost set to????

The power peaks on a turbo 1g DSM at about 6500 rpm, almost regardless of turbo, because of the cam design. The 2Gs have similar cams (.010 less lift on exhaust) but the t25 falls off before 6500 ;) Boost tends to hit around 3k, and power starts coming up at 3500 or so.

Outstanding information!
I really appreciate the response I was beginning to wonder if I would just have to test it out. This Talon is running Stock boost on a stock turbo...for now. I wanted to be able to manage and compare my gain when I start to make modifications. First I'll use the factory turbo on stock exhaust, then modify the exhaust to full 3" and see if I get any real gain from it. After that I'll change to the larger big 16g turbo clipped and check again. THEN I want to see where and when the fuel system lacks and tune it with a SAFC and larger injectors. I guess I'm just experimenting right now. I still have to get the datalogger and the software. I am trying to develop a real time GUI interface that shows all statistics as they happen while recording them. Again I don't know what the datalogger already on the market is capable of, if it already has this feature I probably won't even bother. Hopefully I can get something Windows based with an actual interactive interface that you can change while driving.

If my computer crashes...does my car crash too? LOL
That would suck hehe.

Anybody who can fill me in on the datalogger and software?

Thanks again,
Zero

Most logger (I use the pocket logger) have a "view" screen which show the data real time without recording it. Thats what I use for highway tuning in most cases for rough tuning. For fine tuning it is better to sit down with a cheeseburger and go over the graphs :)
