I am doing that conversion that everyone says not to do and its not worth it and a couple said it couldnt be done (I know it can be done and I know how big of an exspense it is and how much work it is. I just have nothing better to do). I am converting a 95 GS or RS with a 420a and an automatic tranny to a 4G63 T and a 5 speed. The question I am asking and really need to know is this. I am going to find and rebuild a 6 bolt block to go in the car. I would like to go and buy a parts car to do this, like a 92 or so talon or something. But will all the parts from the older 1G work togehter with my 2G? With me using a 1G engine in my 2G, will I have to use a ECM from the 1G the engine came out of, or will I need to use one from a 2G GS T? I would love to just be able to buy a 1G from a salvage yard and just strip off everything I need. I would appreciate any help and suggestions. Thanks

the stupid ass questions you are asking clearly indicate that you shouldn't even attempt this swap. you much be some rich fool. not to rain down on your party but you really do not know what you are getting yourself into. i'm having a 6-bolt put into my 2G, and that's hard enough already.

well, considering I have never even rode in an eclipse until about a week ago, I dont know sh*t about the cars. But, since I am a ASE certified machanic, I have work with welding and fabrication since I was 15, and the fact that I have rebuild more motors than you can spit at, I think that I shouldnt have any problems with this swap. The only thing I have ever done with a Mitsubishi is rebuild the head on a mirage. I have put a vette motor into a Pontiac Sunfire. I think with me switching a fwd 4 cylinder to a rwd 8 cylinder that puts out 800+whp, I shouldnt have any problem turning a fwd 4 cylinder into a fwd 4 cylinder shouldnt be much of a problem. I asked for some advice from someone that has experence with DSMs, not someone talking trash that might not even be as qualified as me to do the swap.
BTW I dont care what qualifications you have and if you are more qualified than me or whatever it is you want to say so please refrain from trying to act like an a$$whole.
Thank you and have a nice day

I really dont want to piss anyone off on here, I just dont like people ranting and raving about how stupid a question is. Im not going to go and waste my money because I am not sure of something on a car I really have never messed with. If you dont like the fact that I want to be sure of something before I do it, dont listen. Or you could just put your hand over the computer screen and press the back button on your browser.

if you're worried about throwing money away, then why are you doing a 4G63 swap to a 420A car? you just contradicted yourself. look man, it's not a cost effective swap... that's the message that people are trying to get through to you.

btw, you say you've done all these customs swaps and stuff yet you can't even tell what will work. you can make a v8 work in a sunfire, then you should be able to make a 4G63 work without asking questions.

BUT... you can use a 1G or 2G ECU... get a GM MAF translator and a GM MAF for the engine. i'd suggest a 2G ECU though, because the caps haven't been known to leak and the 2G ECU is just better anyway. the AWD ECU can be used in a FWD... the AWD has a bit more aggressive timing.

well, I apprieciate the info. The reason I have to ask is because there can be a big difference in the functions of a ecu on a older model car as opposed to the functions of an ecu on a newer model car. I figured that they would interchange. I was just looking to get a second opinion thats all. Thats the whole purpose in this website. I am aware that alot of money is needed to go into the swap. But considering I bought the car for 800 dollars, it really doesnt matter because in the end I will end up break even anyways. The engine in the car has bad rings. Instead of rebuilding a decent engine, it makes more sense to build a better engine. The tranny also isnt shifting correctly. Even though it could be fix, it also makes more sense just to go ahead and say to hell with it and put a manual in it since I would rather have a 5 speed. If however, you know of a better engine that I could get more of my money off, then by all means let me know. Like I said, I am knew to dsms and I would like to stick with a dsm engine. So that basically it. Im sorry if I seemed to step on your toes a bit there about this, you just said the wrong thing at the wrong time. I do appreciate the info.
