The new DSMtuners Wisemen
Okay everyone, some of you have noticed that the custom user titles feature (found underneath each username in the forums) has been eliminated and everyone is now a "DSMtuners Member". This was done in order to make room for the new user group I've created, called the DSMtuners Wisemen. This new group was created in order to help identify the experts in the community.

Many of you will know these guys already (since some of them are notorious for being smart asses), as they've been answering technical questions for some time now here on DSMtuners.com. They will likely be found answering the more advanced questions in the Performance forums, so keep an eye for them.

Don't be discouraged because you're not chosen as a Wiseman - as not everyone will be able to make the list. The group will remain small, with very few additions, so please no requests to be added to the list. If you're chosen to be a Wiseman, we'll let you know.

Any questions about this new group can be asked here. Thanks everyone.

Need big favor from all wiseman (and others):

Lately there has been way too much bad attitude towards people who may not know things as well as others.

I consider myself a rookie when it comes to turbos and fine-tunning, so when I post a question that may seem like 'basics' to some, I would still like curteous answer (or no answer), but definetely not old favorite 'rice boy' or such remarks.

We're all on the same boat here, so why put down one another ?

Sometimes (not always by far) it's also a case of someone thinking that they know more than they do. It's aggrevating when some kid with a non-turbo who's been in the scene for less time than somone's last turbo setup has been around arguing and spewing bad information. You sit there, and try to talk sense into the kid, but of course, he "knows what he's talking about" . Some flaming is unneccesary, yes, but then on the flip side, some people deserve it.

Key to stop flaming like this....don't spew advice if you're not sure on your information, and don't argue something with someone that knows a helluva lot more unless you're *DAMN* sure that you're right--it can get old answering basic questions, and it gets *REAL* irritating when someone decides that they want to flaunt their limited "I've heard" knowledge around.

This doesn't apply to everyone(once again, by *FAR*), but it's definitely something that isn't too uncommon.

I completely agree with DSSA. There has been a recent flood of new members to this site (this is a good thing.) Many of the new members do not know a whole lot and realize that they do need to learn (also a good thing.) However, there are also those who think they know everything and spew incorrect information (mostly what they "heard" from someone.) This becomes very tedious because sometimes we have to battle with these people to correct them. I like the idea of the Wiseman (not just because I am one) because it lets others know whom to listen to for correct info and there is no argument. I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything. Because of this, if I am not sure the answer I would give is absolutely true, I don't answer. There are many who would benefit from listening to those who know the answers and not arguing with them. I rarely flame anyone, if I do, they deserve it.

Ya I moderate the newbie/forum so I answer the same questions daily. No problem for me I don't flame anyone. If you feel the need to flame. restrain and alert a mod a peson is making trouble that way it can be taken care off quietly w/o interuppting a useful thread with 2 pages of arguing.

Yes, maybe, but me and the moderators don't deserve the work of cleaning up the mess...

I haven't flamed anyone and probably wouldn't do it in a thread. If I felt the need to flame someone I would PM them. I don't like making messes that others have to clean. What I meant by that was IF I ever did, I would have to have a really good reason. I refuse to get into internet arguments (flame wars,) they serve no purpose.

OK.. how many damn "can I vent my stock BOV" & "I vented my stock BOV & now my car runs like #@%#@%#@%#@%" posts do we need? How about making a list, or making new members read some dsm.org info before ever posting in the Newbie forum? I mean come on.. alot of it is just pure laziness & they want all the info handed to them. If you guys continue to want knowledgeable people postiong & awnsering questions.. the new guys need to do a little research 1st.. if it's only basic read the 1000 AAQ from DSM.org. This would cut down on some of the BS.

Just my $.02...

We can't force people to read those sites and there are lonks to them all over the place. I moderate the forum and I answer all the venting questions. I think I answered 3 or 4 today alone. It take me more work to answer it quickly than to find the vfaq link or dsm.org and post it. So i just answer it less work for me :)

Later,

I'm talking about having something that all newbies have to read before being able to post...

Even if we had that there is no way to verify it. Like a license agreement to setup software. You have to read before installing but do you...No you just say I accept and move on. It's like that noone will read it anyway and even if they do they may still ask questions on it. I uderstand what you saying but it's not practical.

Later,

OK.. well how about having a list "sticky" or whatever at the top of the newbie forum w/ links to the DSM basics (either 1000 AAQ or a list that you guys come up with). & if they ask a question about something in the list... referr them to the list... then if they still have questions.. then we/you can awnser them. I just think people are getting way too lazy & if you awnser their every simple question... that just adds to the laziness.

That's true and there is a sticky at the top of the forum that links to or tuning guide which talks about venting. Maybe I will also add links to 1000questions faq.

Later,

Also... their may be alot of newbies that aren't aware of the vast knowledge available to them.. maybe they aren't just lazy after all.. just not informed... I'm sure some are just lazy.. but you get my drift.

Just wondering, but are there any or going to be any "wiseman" that are NT? I realize that with turbo knowledge these guys may rule, but when it comes to the world of the non-turbo cars their knowledge may not seem so expansive. If it hasnt been done (I dont see any posts in the NT forum about it) I think it would be nice for it to be done. I see a lot of newbie's out there that ask some questions and dont get the proper assistance because there is some other newbie know-it-all spitting out the wrong advice. TIA

I for one agree w/ Ken on this. I mean I was a noob once too, and before I'd ask questions on any forum I'd SEARCH on my own for the info. Now I know people in this forum say that's not an acceptable answer to a question, but seriously, most noob Q's can usually be answered by making a well worded search. And what I don't get is you want us to LINK to the answer instead? So basically we're just doing all the leg work for them and using up our time while they sit in front of their PC and download porn waiting for someone to responed? I know some just don't know any better, but for some they are just lazy asses who want all their Q's answered for them and don't wanna spend 5 mins looking on their own.

Preach on, bruthaman!

Seriously though, I don't mind answering something that's been answered before or pointing them in the right direction if they state that they've checked @ "www.whatever.com" and "www.theanswerSHOULDbehere.com" already and couldn't find the answer. But chumps that say "Yeah, what sparkplugs are in my car and how many quarts of oil does it take at an oil change" people are annoying. At least *attempt* to find answers to basic questions first. No one handed me a lot of answers to the questions over the years, and at that point, it wasn't as easy as just doing a search either. Yet, some people still refuse to do any legwork on their own.

It's simple - if you become irritated by the question, you aren't required to "do the leg work". Simply click "back" and move on. I refuse to give everyone on this site a license to use the popular "use the search" response. It's not the right solution. It drives new users away since it's rarely said in a nice way. I'll work on ways to try and make the popular answers easy to find. I've already posted an announcement in the Newbie forum as Ken suggested above. Bottom line - those questions will likely always come up, no matter how easy I make it. I welcome more suggestions to help improve the situation.
