i've got a 99 Eclipse GS. how much better do the ### Spec Eclipse engines perform (hp) than the stock engine i've got in my ride now? is it worth it to import a ### Spec or would it be more worth it to just swap a 4G63T into it? where could i find a ### Spec to import?

I assume you are talking about a J spec motor, and since the motor in your car is a Chrysler built engine there is no J spec motor. Your car is basically a neon with a fancy body. You also cannot swap a 4G63 into your car without major modifications, it can be done but you'll save a lot of money and patience by selling your car and buying a turbo model. Your best bang for your buck would be nitrous, my freind with a GS on a 50 shot would take my freinds GST (stock) pretty good. From what I've seen the turbo kits for the N/Ts aren't worth the money. This is just my opinion and maybe I haven't seen the good ones but the ones I have seen are not that great for what they entail. I hope this helps. PM me if you have anymore questions.

ouch! "a neon with a fancy body?" LOL it's all good. well, i just bought it so i don't plan on selling it n e time soon. money isn't a big issue, i just want to build it correctly. i'm not in a hurry to blow the thing by shooting nitrous into a pretty stock engine either. i don't know much about my engine, but what i do know is that my hp goal is 500 and i know that there's no way i can get there with the engine i've got in there now or a 50 shot of nitrous. so there's no j spec i can get for my ride?

Without major modification, NO.

What you can do is stroke your engine, get it fully built, and turboed. That may get you closer to your goal.

You have a DOMESTIC motor. There is no J spec engine because your car doesn't exist in Japan. Even the turbo models were never sold there, sold there that doesn't mean there are none. 500 horses seems like a bit lofty goal and I suggest you do a lot more research before you try anything. Go to www.hahnracecraft.com they have the fastest N/T w/ Turbo in the country but it's only running mid 11's which is way faster than me but it's with a fully built motor and major tuning. My friend with a 91 Tsi AWD is running 11.9 on a 16g, mild tuning, and best of al STOCK BLOCK. All I'm saying is yes you can make the N/T eclipse fast, just as fast as a GS-T but it's going to cost you. Just ask any of the N/T w/ Turbo guys around here and listen to what they say.
