My car is currently down and I've been itchin to put my 272/272 cams in. I was wondering if it would be safe to put my cams in with the stock valve springs for a while. If so, is there anything I can do to prevent valve float as far as driving style etc... I have Crower springs, but I am currently building my 1g head to put on my car and I wanted to get a taste of these cams.

stock valve train can rev to 9k.

 I wouldnt trust that (not just cause its coming from Manny either), for the simple fact that "most" stock heads wont really handle (or I wouldnt put themn through it) more than 8k consecutively. Not sure why you would want to rev up to high anyhow, but Id say that for the average guy, the stock valve train is pretty adequate as most dsm's wont make power past 7500 anyhow.

My stock valve train and 272's have seen over 10K twice. On a missed shift and a down shift on a road course. I wouldnt recommend it but it survived. You will be safe revving to the stock rev limit or even 8.5k with the stock springs.

I just ordered my 272s and to be on the safe side I went ahead and got the Crower Spring and retainer set for 249 bucks worth of insurance.
