I want to know what, if any, are the differences between a 1G 7bolt and 6 bolt block? Just the block itself. If you put them side by side and measured everything on it, is there any difference? Finding a 6 bolt is pretty tough and I can get a 7 bolt cheaply. I am getting ready to build a new motor but I do not want to use a 7 bolt though. Unless I can swap my 6 bolt parts into it. Are the journals different sizes ad such? If anyone has this info please share, as I would greatly appreciate it.

Just look around I picked up a 6 bolr block for $100. Good for a rebuild.

should also note that 7 bolts have a sort of bellhousing on the engine block, where as the 6 bolt doesnt. early 6 bolt blocks were also air- oil cooled.

I have no physical proof of this, but it is a hunch of mine that the material on the 95 and up blocks was less dense than the 94 and older. Again, I have no facts of the metal composition to support this, so you can't hold this as fact. In addition to the rod journals being smaller, the crank is also lighter.

Regards,

Man I can tell ya, that I have looked everywhere to no avail. But I am in no hurry as this will be this winters project. So I have time to keep looking. If I don't find one when the time comes for maching then I will just use mine that is in the car now. No biggie. But I do appreciate all the info ya'll provided.
