The South,
i know this might have been asked before, but i'm curious as to why people swap out 1g MAS's for 2g MAS's. I want to know the real reason, not just "it flows more" and if it does, HOW? I'm still a semi-newbie, so i just wanna know. thanks in advance.

Well as you know the 2G is a larger unit. It also works faster than the 1G MAS which will quicken throttle response. More agressive timing is possible because the 2G MAS actually reads less air which means more air can enter before fuel cut is activated. The larger flow rate allows for a higher limit. Basically more air is entering but less is being 'seen'.

This is a good upgrade however the ECU is metering/calculating less air and will run into fuel problems. Larger injectors will be needed along with proper instrumentation (I can't stress enough how important instrumentation is and it is invaluable to the new DSMer...or any tuner for that matter.) these tools are a logger, EGT, AFPR, AFC, etc.

The benefit of swapping a 2G MAS is basically more airmass which equals more power. Of course with more air more fuel is needed. By slapping this MAS on you will disrupt your A/F ratio which shows its face as a rough or no idle, knock and detonation. Again get devices that allow you to bring your A/F back up.

can't speak for the diamante but 3kgt uses the same mas as the 2g eclipses

I find it interesting that you're that fast and don't know how a 2g works to make you faster. 12.6 and mostly stock is quite a feat.

I was supprised at that too, you must have alot of weight modifications. You have a very similar setup to what i'm running but the best i've got was a 13.0 @ 105 but that was at 18 not 22. maybe i just need more boost.

I haven't tried it yet, but i've heard of people installing the 2G mas with 550's and the car runs decent, but i dont' think that i would do that w/o atleast a logger to see exactly what's going on in there. Just because it feels faster doesn't mean its running better. I"m not sure if i should do the 2G mas, 550's and an afc or GM 3" maf, 550's and afc, i already have the 2G mas and the 550's, but i wanted to do the GM translator set up so that i could install my blitz bov and vent since its just sitting in my room. Also, is there a way to vent 100% and make it run ok if you had an afc, if so i might just vent it with the 2G mas. Thanks

No, you had it right when you said you wanted a maft(which to vent would have to be in blow-through). The only way to vent and use the safc, is to use it in conjunction with the maft (easy to use and cheap) or a vpc (not so cheap).

HAHA  This post is from 1.5 years ago. I was surprised when I got emailed back telling me sommore people posted on this thread. I was like... "I asked that " hehe...:thumb: We all were newb's once but I never knew I asked such stupid questions. :p :barf: I don't got much weight mods. On those runs, i was at about 21-23(spike) psi running C16 and had backseats and pass seat taken out which still put me at about 3000 w/o driver and 3140 w/ driver. :thumb: I was misfiring from bad plugs too in 3rd and 4th gear.:shhh:
