Just wondering if anyone out there has seen or knows if sidedraft weber carburators will work on a turbocharged engine.Ive seen some puerto rican drag racers using them on rotaries and toyota 3tc motors but im curious if they will work on a 4g63.I know there is going to be custom plenum modifications to be made to get them to work i just dont know if they make a weber big enough to handle boost.Im going to be going with a t04b turbo and the stock ecm even with an afc i doubt will be good enough and i cant afford to run a stand alone nor have time to tune one.If anyone has seen this done or has some knowledge of weber or mikuni carbs all the help will be appreciated. Thanks

I know i was worrying about tuning the carbs too but there pretty basic just trying out different jets and power valves the mikunis have very large power valves so i was leaning towards them but there hard as hell to get parts.im not sure if i want to go with the carbs yet if i can find a different exhaust side for the to4 i have i wil more than likely just run lower boost untill i can get an ems.The turbo i have is a garret air research t04b and the damn exhaust has an a/r of .96 way to big for a 4g63 stroker or not.im trying to find someone who can possibly make a .57 or .60 exhaust side to match the .60 a/r thats on the compressor.slowboy racing said they can do it so i think im going to give them a try seem like pretty knowledgable guys.

I have some friends who have turbo sand rails and they all go with a Holley draw thru. Pushing it through would be a pain to tune. Look at some sand rails and see if you can get some ideas. I personally would leave it injected for simplicity.

Yeah right, you think carbs would make it that much easier to spool the turbo? Your still limited by exhaust flow which is still limited by the displacement of the engine regardless. I ran a t04e on my engine with just an ecu and a safc, worked great, ran 11's, ytrapped 120 mph.....and I only tuned it driving on my way to school and cruising around, never took it seriously. very easy. You by no means need a stand alone.

Thanks cuong1106 i was wondering if anyone else had used this turbo with a piggyback ecm.Things have been going pretty well since the first post i never realized i could go with a smaller exhaust a/r but quite a few companys have emailed me letting me know it can be done easily i think im just going to go with the .57 a/r exhaust seems more feasible than the .60 although its probably fine too.Im pretty new to this post so thanks everyone for helping me out its appreciated.Im definately really interested in the 2.4 galant bottom end swap i have found two of the twin cams and one sohc at a local junkyard and the prices are pretty good. That will definately help the lagg i was worrying about.

Buschur ran 7's on a stock ECU with big injectors, a VPC, and a GCC or AFC. The stock ECU is fine, you just need the ability to tailer the fuel curves for b###### injectors and other mods.

carbs and turbos are a pain in the arse.

Period.

They will either idle well and drive well around town or they will make gobs of power. I suppose there are some setups that will do both, but it is rare and alot of work. If you don't wanna tune a laptop you will never setup a multi-carb turbo.

If you have to do it, go drawthru tho, blowthru is hard because you are pressurising the carbs themsleves and you get leaks and other anomalies due to the inherent design of a carb.

Some cars have carb/turbo combos factory, like early Buick 3.8 turbos, but they were draw thru. Kinda wierd setup, with the carb way over on the drivers side :) Turbo T/A's were similar.

One car I saw with a blow thru turbo setup and carbs was the Maserati BiTurbo. It had a plenum surrounding the carbs, and the turbos fed it, thereby limiting the leakage factor to one seal for the throttle rod or cable(I can't remember exactly)

Early Lotus turbo's were the same. Finicky and wierd, hard to tune. The FI ones were alot easier and better.

Heard the same from the RX-7 guys who convert their carb cars to turbo, without going FI.

Best of luck tho and have fun.

LOL True That!! Carbs run on 9psi of feul pressure and regulated by jets and bowls. Now imagine running 15 psi through that... can you tune a carb to the fluctuations of air counts in a turbo system with out a a draw through system?! if you plan on doin this why waste your time and money on side drafts. Just git a good flowin 4 barrel carb and let the turbo suck on that. Its cheaper and easier to set up I would think. I actually saw a carbureated turbo manifold on ebay once. It was draw through for a big block, never seen the other kind. Fun stuff!!:laser:

a carb on that car is just plain stupid. There is a guy with like a 70 camaro with an inline 6 that has a t1 turbo on it and there was so much fabrication and pain to do the car. with the carb you can't take in account the turbo lag so you have to have it run rich before the turbo spools. I can list about 50 reasons why i wouldn't waste my time do this b/s.

reason number 50
pruven performance-9.6 et (no carb)

49 cost to much
48 takes to much time
47 wont make as much power as fuel injection
46 blow through type extra carb modifications
45 draw through type unique carb mounting posistions
44 draw through type unique throttle linkage
43 fuel in intercooler
42 more piping needed if I/C is to be used
41 computers to a better job than springs, floats, jets, and needles
40 because it is the 21st century
39 because F/I worked for John Shepard
38 because F/I worked for Dave Buschur
37 because F/I worked for Jeff Hill
36 because F/I worked for Sean Glazer
35 because F/I worked for Tym Switzer
34 because F/I worked for Brent Rau
33 because F/I worked for Ray Parks
32 because F/I worked for Todd Day
31 because F/I worked for Tim Beek
30 because F/I worked for Dan Polk
Because you can count this list down to 0 and still have plenty of unused names left.

One of the most retarded ideas ever. You have one of the best, most modern fuel injection systems available and you want to put carbs on? Please sell your car to somebody before you destroy it.

On a side note, when do you graduate from highschool?

carbs and turbos are the biggest panis in the anus around. and if your using a sidedraft, going slow, and say turning into a parking space, alot of times your car will stall.

I find it funny that you don't have time or money to get and tune a standalone ecu (Even though you have yet to show that you will need one as this is all bench racing "I am going to run X turbo so I gotta need a standalone" crap) yet you think you will have time and money to get a set of webers to work out well on your car.
