hey guys, I need to know the differences of mounting the wastegate on the manifold or the o2 housing. I heard its better to mount it on the o2 housing, that way you are venting all 4 cyl, instead of just #1 runner, or does it not matter at all?

What do you guys think?

thanks

O2 housing vent is the way I would personally do it.

Later,

Is that made by victory performance?

The idea of mounting the WG on you O2 is logical. My experience here is lacking though...

I have been told by more than one source to vent it at the O2 housing. It is the easiest way to to vent from all 4 runners. The other choice would be to vent from the collector area of your manifold. (usually how the full garrett ones are)

"Mounting the wastegate._ this is one of the most overlooked areas of boost control._ In a perfect world you would select a mounting location for our wastegate that allows the gate equal access to all cylinders or rotors._ This promotes equal exhaust port pressures between cylinders/rotors and avoids mysterious tuning problems resulting from uneven exhaust port back pressures._ Another aspect to keep in mind is the high velocity of the exhaust gas inside the exhaust manifold, sometimes exceeding 800ft sec._ Gas that is traveling at such high velocities will not easily make 90 degree turns of zero radius into the wastegate inlet._ Remember Newton's second law, "bodies in motion tend to stay on motion"._ That particle of air is not particularly inclined to make a 90 degree turn and 800ft/sec._ It must be persuaded to do so by giving it a gentle radius and easy access to the exhaust flow._ Simply welding the gate to the side of a tube may work in some cases where the manifold back pressure is thru the roof, but in modern high efficiency turbochargers the pressure inside the manifold can be quite low and special through should go into wastegate runner geometry._ The penalty for poor gate placement and poor gate runner design is having to use a larger gate."

Straight from Tial. I also use an 02 mounted gate. HKS 40mm and I run a very very large Garrett.. well sorta.

Well you don't need a ext gate for a tubro that small but if you really want one. Like Swordfish said get 02 mounted.

Later,

They same as dumping to the atmosphere but w/o all the noise.

Later,

Ya all replacement O2 housing have a bung becasue you still have to have your O2 sensor.

Later,

I just assumed that someone running an external wastegate would have used an O2 eliminator. I found it relieving to find that it still has an O2 bung. I might actually be able to make this pass smog (with it recirced of course). NO more boost spikes, YEAH!

Even O2 eliminators have the Bung. I have an O2 eliminator DP and it has the bung. it has to be there to retain the O2 sensor in the stock location or else your car wouls run like #@%#@%#@%#@%.

Later,

Extranal dump sounds better the more boost you run also. At pansy boost, 16 and under, it sounds like crap. 20psi sounds great.
I have a custom 2.5" o2 housing and HKS 40mm wg.
