hi. i know that the fuel injectors click..but man..this is louder...it sounds like the valves are not insync. usually after the car warms up..it goes away...but its really annoying when u first start up. I called the mitsu dealer..and they said you cant adjust the valves..they said u have to replace the lifters. is that true? has anyone else had this problem?

What kind of oil filter are you using? ...make sure your using either a OEM one by Mitsu which you can get at the dealership or something like a Mobil 1. This cleared up my lifter tick problem.

He means oil filter.

I use Royal Purple oil and a K&N Oil filter and have no tick. Mobil1 Oil makes my lifters tick but every car is different.

Later,

I get my royal purple at Napa auto parts. I get my K&N filters form a local v-8 shop. You can also use redline oil.'

Later,

For me certain oil is to thin regarless of the weight and so the lifters tick.
I don't know how the oil filter can make a difference.

Later,

I use 3 quarts of 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic, and one quart of 15w50 mobil 1 syn(red cap). It'll tick a little here and there until it warms up completely.

If the lifters tick no matter what you do. that's when it is time to replace them.

Later,

Change your oil to Mobil One SuperSyc and MAKE SURE you use OEM mitsubishi oil filter. The filter itself only costs $5.00. I have no lifter tick since I put this combination in.

Lifter tick won't cause any damage but just annoying... Also, if your lifter ticks too loud, your knock sensor might pick it up as noice and thus retart your timing....

Later,

Some oil filters have anti drain back system and some don't. OEM oil filter sure does. It prevents oil from drain back to the oil pan. So when you do a cold start, it takes less time for oil to recirculate the engine.

Using synthetic oil or not will not affect your oil leak any. so you might as well use it.

Later,

ah dont worry about it. Run synthetic its not going to make the leak any worse. Synthetic just holds together better when abused.. if its leaking it wont leak even a noticeable amount more with syntetic. Japanese motors are put together with super close tolerances... domestics have probs with synthetic.
