I see this alot at the drag races. They say it works really well. Have any of u guys done this? Got any pictures?

thanks

no> u just use it for the intake. instead of ur stock rubber one that goes to the turbo.

In drag racing, every once of air you can "RAM" into your motor will end up as more power and better ETs. I'm sure they work but you will only see it at the track. On a dyno the blowing fan does little to replicate the wind generated by a vehicle going 85+ m.p.h. I'm quite sure someone on this board has some pics of their creations.

One of my friends has a duct rigged up. It runs from his front left bumper inlet right next to the intercooler to his K&N. Probably 3 or so inches wide all the way up. He relocated his coolant bottle for it. Does it make a difference? Yes :thumb: The K&N is open and screwed into the MAS itself, no stock aircan at all. He ran this piping duct to it and cooled his engine bay temps at cruise more than 10 degrees (double that at times). Now he cruises down the freeway in the 80s instead of the 100s.

You're using the wrong word. A duct is a pipe used to get cold ambient air to the filter. The turbo intake pipe is the thing that goes from the MAF to the turbo, which is what you are talking about.

Lots of people have turbo intake pipes. You can buy them fron places like www.dejontool.com, you can weld your own or have a show weld one from exhaust piping, or you can make one from PCV you can buy at home depot.

If the questions is does it make a difference the answer is yes. I took the intake off because it was raining when i came out of a mall one day and the car just felt flat. This was with no intake and sucking air directly into the turbo.

Well do any of u have pics of your turbo intake? other than dejon tool. just a home made one.

hey guys,
I don't know if this is what you're talking about or not but ArcticTsi has a really cool cold air setup but doesn't place the filter where it can get wet! Check out his web page. It also doesn't look like it cost him a whole lot!

Missed this thread earlier, my home made jobby. Will upgrade from the 3" hose to a larger 5" Dryer hose when I finish my cold air box for the filter. And increase the diameter of the Hole that the stock upper IC pipe came through. I also lengthened the stock intake tube so the filter is relocated right over that stock hole.

so this thread has inspired me to make a glorry duct, i though i would share my ideas for the benfit of dsmkind.

Basicaly im gonna bake a plexi glass box, epoxyed together. Ill paint that black, but have a removable clear top, and cut a hole so i can atach the filter bracket.

the bottom of this box will have a big hole in it, 3-4" and that will conect to pvc pipe which will go down though that pice of metal and turn in the area where the stock ic would go.

Now im thinking if using the old stock ic duct as a form. and if i heat up the end of a pvc pipe i might be able to expand it to fit the hole...

So in the end there will be a giant air duct that rams the air up into a seald airbox with a filter.... this should remove a lot of heat from the initial charge.
