hey guys i was reading on some of the tubo sites and i came across this
"turbo setup for manifold or o2 housing mounted gate". now my question is what is the difference between the two setups, and would there be any advantages or disadvantages from one setup to the other? if it's not too much trouble could someone post some pic so i could see the difference.

I believe you're referring to either mounting an external wastegate on the exhaust mani or on the o2 housing. If you're new to things, this issue is the least of your worries, for now. I can't really tell you the benifit of on or the other, in the end it does the same thing.

well yes, i am fairly new, but i hate stock. i know what to buy more or less, but unlike my gs i would like to be the one to put it all together.

o2 mounted is better for external but guys run 130+ traps with an external on the manifold so either will work fine.

Do a search on O2 mounted external wastegates and manifold mounted external wastegates..You'll find plenty of info supporting both.....

i hear/read that the optimal place to place the external is on the o2.. something about controlling boost more accurately or something.. sitll new at it as wel.. but on the exhaust manifold has been done countless of times and its no problem.. i dont think thers really that big of a difference or more people would always try to mount it on the o2..

The only difference that I know of is that a tubular O2 housing is easier to construct than welding onto cast iron. There are more ways to mount the wastegate and it is easier to pipe it back into the exhaust not to mention that the runner that the external gate sits on is the same one that the internal gate would flow through.

thanks for all the input. i'm a little less confused now. hopefully i can find some good info when i research this subject.

It has been said that mani mounted placement causes that particular cylinder to run lean when the WG opens. Has been done, but not optimal. The o2 mount, AFAIK, is more difficult due to space limitations.
