Just wanted some opinions on intercoolers. In the parts guide there are so many kinds but around here people only use the greddy or apexi. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with other intercoolers. Im not too worried about price but i'd like to get the best intercooler for the best price. Thanks for any advice you can give. Later.

I went with neither. I have a Spearco 2-272 (2-216 core). I needed it to flow enough to support the turbo I have (FP Green). Ideally you wanna spec your intercooler in relation to the turbo you have or plan on having. I waited for my FMIC until after I got my turbo since at the time I had no idea what size turbo I would have or the pipe run I would need. I made custom TIG welded short run pipes. All 2.5" to the TB and Turbo. It turned out sweet in the end. I couldn't find any shop with a 2G custom setup in stock when I was looking.

Agreed - It sounded easy at first, but was a PITA. I guess if I knew how to weld it would be easy, but since I didn't it turned into a little project. It ended well, but was frustrating to say the least. It was not a simple bolt on procedure. I view it as a learning experience :)

what kind of piping did you use...wall thickness and things like that. i am planning on just buying the core and endtanks then bending my own piping. i have a pipe bender and i know someone who will weld for me. later.

I got my pipes from RRE ( http://www.roadraceengineering.com/mandrelbends.htm ). I used the 2.5" steel pipes. Don't forget to order the TB Flange, BOV Flange, Gaskets, Couplings, Band Clamps, and stuff. My FMIC brackets are the classic Home Depot flavor. I had some 1/2" thick aluminum plates threaded and then welded on to each side of the FMIC. I then mounted the bracket to the car and then bolted the braket to my new threaded plates. Heres a pic of another car that I got the idea from ( http://www.austindsm.org/pictures/brian/spearco/mvc-021s.jpg )

thanks alot for the information. I think i might go this route...the mounting looks like it would have come on there already. it a nice and clean install. thanks.
