Ok, here is the scenario..
Originially I was all gung-ho about getting a L1R/GT10 but the price derailed that plan when I actually came back to reality about how much I make.. So I decided that a good old 16G would be a perfect fit for my modest budget. Since I didn't want to dick around with an install kit, Slowboy Racing has a great 16G turbo that comes ported and upgraded with a 34mm internal gate for $850.00 as well as a 90 deg welded elbow for the stock SMIC. Not too bad, but I wanted to see what else was out there. I thought about the BigT28 but everyone is doing those nowadays for moderatly modded cars (not that the 16G is anything unique). After the turbo I was planning on getting my fuel mods (550cc, AFC I/II) and eventually a FMIC. With all of those, it would be rather expensive to accomplish. I did a little poking around and saw that Dejon Tool has intercooler piping for the Supra Sidemount but ONLY for 1G DSM's. Here is a pic of the piping, courtsey of Dejon Tool
The piping is hefty, 2.5" OD instead of their current 2.25" OD for 2G piping and costs about $370.00 for the lowers and uppers. The only problem is fitting in a 2G. I've emailed them about this right before I posted this thread to see what they'll say. This kit is designed for a 1G upgrade. If you notice, the BOV is mounted upside down and might pose a problem for fitting as well.
If I were to get a standard B/S 16G, the J-Pipe would be eliminated because of the LIC orientation and design and all I would need to buy is a SS feed line, 7cm gasket, and the crushed washers/gaskets for the oil and water lines. Turbochargers has a 16G for $500.00 and the B16G for $595.00. With all that accounted for, I can get my IC upgrade out of the way as well as a cheaper turbo. This project it (depending on the turbo) will probably be around $1100 - $1200 but it is probably worth it for what you get. I don't have very lofty goals. I basically want an above average street machine that can put about 275 - 300 hp to the wheels, once the fuel mods/management are done. I think I can get there or come extremely close with this setup. What do you think? If there is anything I have forgotten, let me know.
