cleaning my turbo

Well the original 14b turbo that was in my car has cracks in the turbo housing so I took the 14b that i have on my parts car and I was curious oh how to clean out the turbo for dust or grass...ect. I know you can use gasoline to clean out the intercooler but I dont know if you can do the same for the 14b. How do I get all that shit out without taking it apart?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

you could take off the turbine and compressor housings and just give it a good rub down with pretty much any diluted cleaner.

take it apart and such, then use a rag and maybe some compressed air also since its off and apart you should just port it.

I used wd-40 to clean out all of the old oil in my 14b and then followed up with judicious amounts of 5 wt motor oil (spinning the shaft while doing both). seems to have worked pretty well, at first the wd40 came out black and then cleared up after several soakings. also, the turbo had sat for a couple of years and didn't move that easily. Once I cleaned it out, it spun like new.

I am probly wrong but wouldn't taking the turbo apart and then putting it back together cause it to become unbalanced? I know this was a probly with the turbo's in the Starion's. . . . just don't want Rob to mess up his only turbo. . . .

by taking it apart we mean unbolting the compressor and exhaust housings. The only way it'll become unbalanced is if you take the shaft/wheels apart an take the center section apart. Just taking the 2 housings off won't cause any problems (unless you're stupid and drop it with the housings off)
