And just how much preformance incress can you get from them?

I have removed the silancer from the MAF but is there realy a reasion to remove the lower honey comb? I dont see a reasion realy? and it has to be there for a reasion right???

also is this the only "free" mods i can do?

by mid next week I should have the 2100ACT clutch in and (wish i got the 2600 now) and geting a turbo from someone on this fourm that is in better shape then mine (going to use them both to make one good one)

also just what does "hard wireing" your fuel pump do? and how does it affect the engine in a good way?

Ok, Removing the lower honey comb allows 2-3 more psi to pass through. And rewireing the fulepump allows it to supply more fuel so that you can boost higher without buying a more powerful fuel pump.

All of the "free mods" are probably only good for a 5-15 horsepower increase. You may not even feel the difference. Basically, the free mods are as follows:

Remove the boost-control-solenoid (BCS)
Open up the air-can. I highly reccomend you do it this way, and don't just remove the air-can totally. If you just remove it, there is no support for the filter, and it will get banged up. Some people say that removing the aircan only allows hotter engine-bay air into the intake, but in general, it's an accepted mod. Also, Leave the honeycombs alone. You don't need to be messing with those yet, and it can possibly cause you a lot of problems to do so. The honeycombs are used to measure how much air is coming into the car, removing some of the honeycombs tricks the computer into seeing less air.
Clean out the Intercooler
You've already removed the silencer thing, so that's the other free mod.

For slightly-less than free things to do: (see www.vfaq.com for how)
Rewire the fuel-pump (helps fuel delivery at high rpm/boost)
Construct some sort of cold-air intake, or a hot air blockoff
Get a K&N filter
GET A BOOST GAUGE (the one in the car stock is very inaccurate) This is one of the most important things you can get. It will tell you your boost level, so that you do not go to high.
THEN, and only then, get an MBC, AFTER you have the gauge. Not before, after. This will let you turn up the boost a couple psi for a few extra horsepower.
Build an intake leak tester (they all leak) and stop those leaks.

That should be a good start :) Once you get all those things, read up on this website, they have a good "tuning guide" to use, and bookmark the vfaq site, it's full of good info!

Oh, and by the way, the ACT 2100 is just fine. You'll like it.

Umm, I don't think that the lower honeycomb will give you the 2-3psi of boost. I thought that was the BCS mod when you take out the small restrictor. this one...

Well as far as free mods are concerned it can help you but it just may not be too noticable, aka cutting the dump tube, or in my case just completely removing it. I noticed that helped a bit with airflow seeing as how I have an open atmosphere BOV. Also adjusting the screw under the mas can help if you want to tune quite nicely. Although these aren't huge things it still can help. It makes a bigger difference the higher in performance you are.

You can take off the passenger side fog light and trim down or replace the shroud in the wheel well for better intercooler airflow.

well I already have a K&N Air filter and removed the silancer completely I was just wondering about the lower honey comb as i know most ppl do but it just seemed to me it's there to measure air so why lie to the computer in this way? it would make more since to just get an AFC to do that.

anyway thanks all. I guess i will leave it in then. And i'll do the BCS mod next.

ive heard its better to not mess with the honeycomb and also that when later gertting a boost controller it is better to put back in the bcs restrictor, just some things i have read

why would u put the restrictor back in the bcs when u get an mbc? ure completely bypassing the bcs once u have an mbc. my bcs is still plugged in electrically, but i have both nipples on it plugged. hmmm now that i think about it, should those nipples even be plugged????????

The honey combs DO NOT measure the air coming-in, they simply distort it allowing the computer to calculate it more effectively. The air is calculated via the small upside U-shaped copper wire with a sensor located at the bottom part of each of the 2 chambers inside a 1G MAS. 2G might be different.
