I was going with a big rod/2g piston combo, but for a little more, I can go forged. I can get Wiseco's and Ross' for the same price. Which ones do you recommend for a daily driver? Any input is appreciated.

Where can you get ross for under 400 a set with rings?

Wisecos are $399 or less with rings.

I'm sure you have the Ross "race" pistons. I was referring to the Ross "street" pistons. turbotrix sells these for $485. They aren't the cheapest place, so I'm sure I can find them for low 400's with rings.

At slowboy racing they have Ross pistons for around that price. But they aren't the Ross racing pistons.

i have wiseco's on my daily driven DSM. i have not had a problem with them whatsoever. 170 in all cylinders  then again, i had a good machinist bore the block and connect the pistons to the rods. that is usually where problems such as piston slap will occur

An unfortunate this to rember about forged pistons is that the gernraly will slap when the motor is cold. That is due to the fact that the the forged pistons have a diffrent thermodynamic value than the cast pistons. To make it simple the block will heat up and expand before the pistons do.Giving you that piston slap.If you don't have that sound then your motor has been machined to be tight which can be good on a daily driver. If it is that loose of a motor than there is a chance that you are getting blow by until the piston heat up.Also another consideration to take into account with the forged pistons is which one has a higher silicon content. The one with the highter silicon content will not be as durable but will allow better lubrication, where as the one with the lower silicon will be much more durable but will not lubricate as well. You should really figure out what you want to do with your car and decide what you need from there, rather than just buy pistons for the name on the box.Hope this helps in some way.

What did your machinest set the piston to wall clearance at? How many miles do you have on your built bottom end?? Thanks

I've got 10K on my Venoila Race pistons from Extreme. Constant piston slap on all applications, but no issues besides the noise. These were pricey @ $600 + custom total seal rings. -Ian

The slap is the reason why I'm in a toss with which forged pistons to go with. I know Ross and Wiseco make pistons that allow for tighter piston to wall clearances, hence less slap. I'm trying to find out which of the two wear the block the least.

Anyone have any other suggestions besides Wiseco and Ross for street applications?

i have no info on the piston slap issue, but am doing a rebuild right now, i found ross pistons for $359 in stock, or the ross piston/eagle rod combo for $679...

where!?

i'm running wiseco pistons with eagle rods and i don't have any piston slap, i have about 4500 miles on my new bottom end now, 1500 of that was breakin. and this is car is my daily driver, no probs at all.

Uhm...This is the first time Ive ever heard someone say that, I think silicate has more to do with the piston expanding and its strenth. You will hear all this Silicate vs. non-silicate piston BS, fact is, everyone has their own needs for the type of racing that they do, I believe the reason that people complain about the JE pistons is because they expand due to the silicate content in them, this makes the piston stronger, but at the cost of expanding, hence the reason why they use a .006" piston/wall clearance, however I could be wrong, its been so long since Ive gotten into one of these conversations. As for those mentioning the ROSS Street vs. Race pistons, the only difference I see between those pistons is the black banadized coating that the race set has, besides that they are pretty much the same. I personally like to order direct from the piston manufacturer, you will need to give them alot of info, but you can customize the piston to add the features that you want.
