Everyone do an instake leak test as soon as possible and feel the results. I did a leak test and found 3 leaks at my IC couplers and had to add an extra washer on my RFL. Of course one of the leaks was the coupler behind the fornt bumper so I had to yank it off. It was worth it. Spoolup is quicker and the car holds boost to redline better than before also the BOV sounds crisper.

I've yet to make mine... got a date with Lowe's in the morning.:D Anyhow, here's a direct link to the instructions on how to build the leak tester. Simple, makes sense, guess it works!

Intake Leak Tester

I made an intake leak tester. But I didn't have any compressed air available, so I bought a foot-pump. It worked kinda.

When I first tried it, I discovered gigantic pit holes in my intercooler, where the upper pipe attaches. So I got out the JB weld, and patched them up good. With the foot pump, I could barely hear air piffing out of these holes.

After I fixed these, I tried the foot pump again, and couldn't build any pressure at all. Which wasn't due to a leak, but just a foot pump can't move enough air.

So, someone helped me that had a compressor. All I had was a small leak at my throttle body, not enough for me to care about it.

Has anyone used a small air compressor (like the ones you use to pump up basketballs, bike tires, and car tires) to pressure test?? This one uses 12V. I am going to try this, but wondered if this worked for anyone?

Yes that is what I used.

Oh jeez... no good.

Did the test... sounds like air is escaping from around <gulp> the turbo itself. I don't know, maybe not... it's just so hard to determine with the manifold and all in the way. This probably explains why it doesn't wanna hold boost in the low gears... I can only get 13-14 psi out of her. Third gear she holds 15.5 just fine.

I guess I shouldn't complain... gonna order the Manifold/turbo/o2 housing within a few weeks. Still, I wish she wasn't leaking. Sucks to be slow even for a little while. Especially when the wife keeps telling everyone at work that drives a domestic how they're gonna get their ass handed to them when she sees them on the street. :D

No kiddin'... I got my own 'DSM Grrrl'. She's way into it. Actually agreed to upgrading the car instead of dropping $3K on a new bedroom set. Cool, huh?

Tangents, tangents.

Jason

That sucks. but atleast you get all the new parts now; :D But yes intake leak teat is such a good idea I had to let eveyone know. I suggest making this a sticky so everyone who has those nagging vacumm leaks and boost leaks can do this.

I bought mine already made because I'm lazy.

What size drill bit should you use to make the hole for the valve stem? Or do you just kinda eyeball it?

Sitting right here on my desk are two 1 1/2" PVC end caps that I ruined before getting the hole just right. :D Yep, I eyeballed it using a Dremel with the included little bit... my real drill is still in storage (just got back from Middle East).

Turned out fine once I got the hang of it. Oh, I also added Super Glue around the edges to seal it. Prolly didn't need it, but what the heck?

Jason

id just eyeball it. thats how I got my igniter to fit into my pvc cap for my potato gun. just start with a very small drill bit and work your way up shaving out a little at a time until it fits.

Hey John where did you buy yours from? I dont have drill or nything so mybe i should just buy one instead...

I got mine off of ebay from a cool guy in canada who made mine special with a 3inch coupler since my turbo has a 3inch inlet.

You wouldn't know becasue it's air escaping that should be going into the engine and helping to spool the the turbo. Also since the air is leaking after the MAS the computer is still calculting the fuel needed so you car will also be running on the rich side since less air is coming in but the computer is still adding the fuel.

Depending on how many leaks you had you can notice the car idling better and the turbo spooling faster.
