my timing is at 2* BTDC. i'd like to kick it up to 6* BTDC. all the faqs i read are either for 1g's with the cam angle sensor by the water pump or just incredibly vague and worthless. how the fuck do i adjust mine?

as clarification,

How do I adjust the timing on a [DSM]?
You would already know this (hint, hint) if you had checked your shop manual. (You do have a shop manual, right?) Also, owners of late 1996 to 1999 DSMs need read no further - base timing cannot be adjusted on these engines - any attempt to do so will result in a 'check engine' light.

are they full of shit? my 1995 sure the hell doesnt seem to be able to do this, and my ###goty retarted timing is costing me power.
