I am looking around for an exhaust system and had a couple of questions. Since i am only 16 i am kinda running low on cash and was wondering if i got a muffler shop to do the piping and i bought a muffler would i see the performance gains i would get by buying a cat back exhaust? Would a custom exhaust system sound like crap? Also does anyone have an ideas on what it would cost to get a muffler shop to give me a 3" cat back ehaust minus the muffler?

Any input would be great.
 
i know around hear you can get a muffler shop to do a catback for about $100...that's press bent not mandrel...i would suggest buying all the mandrel bent pieces from either rre or jc whitney, get a nice muffler, and find a reputable exhaust shop in your area to do the work...i would say you would be looking at around $350-400 for a 3" o2 housing back exhaust...

$100 for mandrel bend peices
$60 for flex section
$60-70 for good muffler (flowmaster or dynomax)
$100 for labor

350 to 400 sounds about right.I did my exhaust myself.I bought a O2 eliminator with a dump tube and 3" down pipe off of the trader for $200.00.the paid about $60 for three mandrel 45 degree elbows and $30 for straight pipe.Bummed a 3" flowmaster from a friend and welded it all myself.I think it sound pretty good.But im going to change the muffler to a dynomax(straight threw flow).A shop would have charged about $100.00 to put it on.On a AWD it easy to run if you dont put on a cat.
 
Thanks for the input guys. Can anyone give me an exact parts list that i will need and where do buy them? Also A new problem just devoloped. When i let off my gas petal i hear a bark/squeak over the BOV. Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on what is causing it? All i have done was the BCS Free mod, and removed the lower honeycomb and back filter thingy from the MAS. I have a K@N filter with no airbox. Any ideas?
 
I was a total cheap ass and had a muffler shop bend me a turbo back with a dynomax race magnum bullet (SOUNDS BAD ASS) and no tip. Yea, it's press bent. But it was also 200 bucks total. and alot straighter than most aftermarket systems. Plus, the bends there are are less severe, so I think, I'm at about 2 7/8 at the narrowest. Close enough to 3" for my goals (about mid 12's). But then again, it all depends on just how far you plan on going...

No idea on your problem though, sorry.
