Alright, I dont want to get flamed over this but does anyone know what you would need to drop a 4g63 in a 96 civic. I know it would probably be a b!tch. My little brother is set on getting a 96 or 97 civic and I'm trying to tell him what he needs to do to make it fast (like don't get a honda). Anyone got any ideas?

its possible, and my buddy and i have been thinking about wedging one in an old school CRX.. just would cost us serious money.. however, with just an MBC, freemods and a straight pipe for an exhaust, that would be one seriously fast car.. :D

he thinks that if he gets an AEM CAI and exhaust that he'll be fast. I just cant talk him out of it. The closest I can get is that he'd get an integra if he could. I was just wondering how difficult it would be to put a real engine in a civic after he got it.

Why do you guys always hate on hondas. Price for price you could get a honda and or a 1g to go the same speed. You guys always rip on them, but have you ever met someone with a nice/fast honda? They aren't bad at all guys...be real.

I agree.. Get a H22A motor. It is a fairly straight forward swap and just in NA form it will make at CRX quick Not as fast as a GSX, but quick. Then he could do the turbo later.

or just do a Jackson Racing turbo setup. He still wouldnt have any traction, but rolling it would really haul.

for the same money as the motor swap you could do a complete turbo setup, suspension, brakes, exaust, sound sys, wheels/tires, etc, etc.

Or just buy a Talon hehe :)

When did Jackson start doing turbo setups. Last time I knew he only did superchargers.

Show me a civic that runs 13s with $700 in mods. Oh wait you can't. The only way to make a fast civic is too either do an engine swap for something of larger displacement, or rebuild the 1.6l with forged internals and turbo it. Doing either is way more of a PITA than what it would take to get a DSM going that fast.
It all depends on your definition of "fast" too. My book goes like this:
13s, good
12s, quick
11s, fast
10s, very fast
Anything running slower than a 13.9 is crap to me.

ps my 91 ran a 13.8 for $2k total, including the cost of the car ;)

can we not get into this discussion again, some people just like to hate on Honda becuz they auto associate Honda with rice, there are fast Hondas and there are fast DSMs.. fact here is any car can be made to go fast.. no need to debate on it again

H22 is not easy to put in a CRX. Look at a B20b bottom end and B16a or B18c(any) head for a crx.

Get rid of the power steering and ac. A couple of hours with an air chisel and a hammer. The h22 will fit in just fine. CRX or the Civic same platform.

No, the h22a isnt easy to put in a CRX, it is very hard.. but is possible. My friend Justin has it done, and that car rips. It looks very mean too.. they had to do a custom widebody on the front end.

NDgsx: Frank motors are nice, but they leak oil.. badly.. I would rather do a b18 or b16 in a crx before a frank motor.. it isnt really worth it.

If you were dying to put a 4g63 in a lightweight fwd hatch back why not just get a Mirage. I think they weigh in around 2500lbs that could be a pretty crazy highway car.

Candela: I think you are just talking to the wrong people about Honda performance. Hey isn’t that an oxymoron ;) If you really think about it there is no way you are going to get a Honda to make 300 hp to the wheels cheap and a DSM can do that on stock fuel with a couple of small mods.

I like the mirage. In fact I used to have one. My brother wants the civic. He doesnt have the car yet and hes already looking at *gasp* bodykits! I'm just gonna make sure he doesnt put any stickers on his car and let him do his intake and exhaust thing and pretend its fast.

p.s. I don't have anything against bodykits. It's just that he talks about wanting a fast car and then wants to do nothing to the engine and wants to get a kit and rims.

The one in my friends integra is doing fine, where have you seen them leaking from? I'm not an expert on the swap, I just helped him put the assembled long block in the car (he used my engine hoist).

Before everyone thinks I hate all I hondas, I drive a civic to work everyday

Putting a 4g63 in a honda civic is very possible. they did it a while back in one of the sport compact magazines, dont remeber which one. it ran like 9's. they said they picked the 4g63 for its robust power. The swap didnt last very long due to crying honda fans. so they put a s2000 motor in it to please the public. pretty sad. i would say it would cost a fortune. in my opinion i would tell ur brother to just get a 1g eclipse and he would be way faster for way less bucks. but if he is determined to have a civic, save the money on the motor swap and do a turbo upgrade and other mods. will cost way less in the end, but this is just my opinion i could be wrong.

he is set on like a 96 civic or a 94 integra. Im trying to at least push him towards the integra. I keep telling him that if he wants a fast car he is going to end up getting a turbo so he might as well get a car that already has one, but he hates the 1g styling and says he can't afford a 2g.

Your so misinformed your post is actually painful to read. They put the 4g63 in a tube frame civic drag car. They did that because they guy building the car had experience with DSMs and I believe he had some connection to Buschur. The swap didn’t last long because they changed the rules to read that the body of the car and the engine must be from the same manufacturer ex Honda/Acura. They put a s2000 motor in it so they could comply with the rules.

So I would have to say that putting a 4g63 in a civic is not fiscally practical. SCC has never done such a swap in the 3 years that I have been reading it. Next time make sure you have the facts then post.
