inside intake mani... black

i popped off my TB the other day, to have a peak in my intake mani, and, to my surprise, it was full of black and brown carbon deposits. So, I guess, my question is, from looking at the intake mani from the outside I am scared to take it off because of all the jumble of hoses and wires attached to it. Is it easier to take off than it looks, or am I in for a weekend of pain.

Also... how did that stuff get in there... isnt the combustion done inside the engine!

It ain't broke, don't fix it. PCV valve and breather that goes to the intake pipe let oil into the intake track.

EGR needs to be blocked off.

It's called "coking" and it's perfectly normal, even with dry manifold designs. It's caused by fuel vapors when the car is turned off. Some of the fuel does not make it into the combustion chambers so it sits in the manifold and drys. Multiply this by hundreds of time per year and you can start to see why it's there. It really won't hurt anything, but you could clean your TB every year or so to it from gumming up too badly.

actually, I have just decided to get a Magnus intake and block off the egr at the same time.
